Tachometer

Bruce Edwards /

I'm looking for an inexpensive tach for my Kinetic TFR. Any suggestions?

Look up hour meter/tachometer on Amazon. They're like 15 to 25 bucks, be sure to read the reviews so you know you're buying a good one. Most have a replaceable watch battery and double sided tape to stick it somewhere convenient. The one I have goes up to 20k rpm. You wrap a little sensor wire around your spark plug wire and then secure it with zip ties. That's where the signal comes from. Cheap and stupid simple.

Thanks

Re: Tachometer

If you wrap the wire around the spark plug wire and slip a piece of heat shrink over it, it looks really clean and stays put.

I'm trying a new one on a current build that is analog, but needs wired into cdi

Re: Tachometer

I bought a few from China for like 4$ each n Aliexpress. All 4 of them work excellent. Just throw in a battery (last for like 2 years before changing) screw it down (or zipties) and wrap the only wire 4x around the plug wire for inductive signal. Have to set it up for 1 spark per rev, they come as 2 per rev (4 stroke lawn mower setting)

Re: Tachometer

Make sure you rubber mount it. Had an analog on my Tomos and it didn’t last very long with the vibes. Was cool to watch vs. digital

If you're running an HPI these tachs are pretty awesome and there's many options as I really prefer to have a analog needle swinging over a flashing number.
