Re: Buzzards vs Barons Vogue Single Speed Build Off

So this one isn't going back on there! It weighs like twice the weight of the other ones I have. Must be some kinda catalytic converter? I'll cut it up later to see.

Sick, this is exciting. Truly in the spirit of mopeds

Re: Buzzards vs Barons Vogue Single Speed Build Off

yeah this thread does not disappoint!

i never thought to do the second port thing but a lot of the chainsaw tuners swear by it. I put a bigger-port muffler ( the european muffler, ooh la la!) on my 50cc Jonsereds/Husqy and it made a huge difference in performance, like 1000+ rpm more in the cut. Way way more high rpm torks.

I just dished the back part the other way. Will it help? Who knows. Was about to seal it back up and I just ran out of welding wire.

Just curious if I went about it the wrong way by hacking off the header where I goes into the chamber. (edited)

Welp I suck at doing this. Melted my last good 14:12....Melted my Vespa one when I tried to do this too. I wonder if my torch just tooooooo hot.

Yup! I used mapp gas but only the tip until the carb started to smoke and it came right out. I moved the flame side to side across it also. I'll dig up a spare, pull the atomizer and send it to ya. (edited)

Re: Buzzards vs Barons Vogue Single Speed Build Off

I never heat the carbs to pull the emulsion tube. Tap it with I believe a 2-56 tap and screw a bolt with a nut and washer into it. Tighten the nut against the carb and it pulls the tube right out.

Re: Buzzards vs Barons Vogue Single Speed Build Off

That would work also

That's the way it's usually done on the inline 4 carbs .

Well damn. That is a good idea

Okay....made some dual stage reeds out of the old Lollipop style pug reeds and some 0.3mm Polini Reed paper. All mounted to a stock Tomos Reed Cage

Lots to worry about here.

I would have used the flat stock Peugeot reed block but the threads came out when I took the screw out :/ could have retapped it but I don’t have any hardware that small. So I went with the Tomos Reed Cage.

Are the carbon reeds touching the cases when they open because the rubber Tomos Reed Cage(idk why my phone capitalizes that) swelled because of tightening? Idk....blew air in there and they moved....but idk. May chip the corners...but that could happen to all reeds. Should I have rounded the corners instead of leaving them square....Idk Is the second stage paper too stiff? Idk. Will my hand cut reeds break apart in like 2 blocks? Idk. Should I have done one big flapper? Idk would single stage reeds be better on a stock setup? Idk

See what I am getting at? Lots to ponder so I said fuck it and went for it. No looking back. All mounted up on the motor.

I think Stepehn is doing this the right way by making some changes then testing it. I get all mongo on a build and hope it works out. (edited)

Re: Buzzards vs Barons Vogue Single Speed Build Off

Idk about " doing it the right way" I'm just curious to see what I can get out of the stock motor before I crack it open.

Mongo the moped mechanic over here just takes out the biggest hammer and wack! I’m going in! Hoping I can get this thing back together soon. After I get the motor done I going to clean up the bike’s crust and rust. However I am not touching the bikes original blue paint or the impound numbers.

Next is the piston. I have to finish modifying it and clean up the ring land area. It has tons of burnt gummy carbon in there. Oh and get some more welding wire so I can finish the exhaust.

Amazon has wire 10lbs. for about $35. Best deal I could find.

Piston is doneZzz. It is in a carb clean soak to loosen up the carbon.

Cylinder is honed, cleaned and chamfered. Hope I can get the gunk out of the ring land area. It is super bad. Don’t need stuck fresh rings. Getting even more excited......

Re: Buzzards vs Barons Vogue Single Speed Build Off

Next is finishing removing piston ring land carbon. Modding starter clutch as stated in the wilki. Then rebuild top end.

Re: Buzzards vs Barons Vogue Single Speed Build Off

Brandon Weiss (Detective brandon to you) /

I've found the best way to clean delicate piston ring grooves and unstick rings is to get one of those ultrasonic cleaners from Ebay, and fill it with the stuff that comes in the gallon cans of carb dip. Nasty stuff, melts all the carbon right out.
