To my Garelli people out there,

I know there is a lot of info out there on this but its all decently old threads.

I have my 70cc SSXL. When I got it it was a 50cc 25 mph ped and I am trying to find the perfect balance. My main hope is to get help locating a front NOI 9 tooth sprocket. right now treats only has an 11 tooth.

This is how the story went :

bone stock - 10x36 = 25mph

added 70 CC kit - 10x36 = 32 mph

Changed rear sprocket - 10x32 = 35-36 mph (still has plenty of pull and a sick mid range)

I currently have the 10x32 going on and its pretty decent for around town but I feel like I still have room to go.

I picked up 26T for the rear. (it's a bigger jump than I wanted to make but it was all treats had)

I hope to put it on this week but I have a feeling I am going to need to drop the front to a 9.. anyone have luck locating these?

What are trying to do besides locate a 9 tooth front sprocket?

My one speed runs 44mph (GPS) repeatedly on a stock 10/32 setup and I'm 190lbs.

Well, yes. Locate a 9 tooth. But also learn what other people are experiencing with their set up, like you mentioned. To be honest I have no idea how you are getting to 44mph with a stock set up.

But that tells me there is more to dial in yet than just the gearing

I'm getting 42 on 10/32 gearing and I'm 278lbs. Good luck finding a 9t sprocket. The last one I found was on eBay and it was $30......

Just go 11/32. You're going to hate the 26 if you hit a hill of any kind. My son is running 10/26 and hits 51. He also ran 11/26 and ran like 54-55 but the bike is only good for completely flat surface.

well.. that's not true. gearing does make you go faster.

However, I will agree that it needs to be tuned correctly. I'm finding out that I don't know as much as I thought I did when it comes to tuning.

I'm still running stock screen and air box on mine. Don't know if I'll ever run a velocity stack, but its a thought.

I had a lot of tuning issues with a 10-32 geared NOI with the malossi kit. Could never get it jetted proper. Switching to 9-32 changed everything, unloaded the engine making it easier to tune and was still good for 57mph.

You were turning some serious RPMs with that bad boy! That would have to be like 13-14,000 RPMs? (edited)

No clue, it would kinda go quiet and hum instead of a brappy sound (it was kinda neat but strangely concerning). It had the 2041 pietcard box which supposedly caps at 12500. Wish I had not sold that bike...

Whatever it was doing it was doing it hard to go that fast on that gearing! It love to hear it topped out.

yeah, with slight porting, modded stock air box , one size smaller rear gear (i forget) and a clamp on jammy pipe my garellis do mid to high 30's.

Gearing is a trade off, like most things. Gain some top end and lose some acceleration. Gearing taller for higher mph will need more power at some point too. Nothing's free or easy, so to speak.

The smart thing to do is to work with what you have first. Master that then make one change at a time to see what nets a gain and what does not.
