Puch Polini 65cc Ring Gap

OK, there are a HORSE load of posts about the Puch Polini Kit and MAKING SURE you GAP THE RING RIGHT.

But, there are few posts where good numbers are given.

The most frequent numbers I'm seeing are .010 to .012, but the posts don't say if that is inches or mm. I could find nothing in the manual that came with the kit. No videos (at least in English) on dong the Ring Gap procedure on this kit.

Without getting snarky, can someone share the best gap to aim for on a new kit with a clear designation of thousandths or mm? Would be MUCH appreciated, as I don't want to toast my shiny new kit. ;-)

Much thanks to Treats, they got it to me overnight with out me asking. Was a nice surprise. I was surprised that it came in such a small box. I guess without a head they aren't too big. LOL.

One of the threads mentioned this table was geared toward water cooled motors, not really our AC 2 strokes.

Based on the chart the Polini should be

43 1.6929 0.0068 inches 0.172 mm

Both those numbers are way outside the .011 to .012 numbers I have seen posted. And since these numbers are in between, that has led to my confusion over whether they are inches or mm. The posts were not clear.

the puch polini is usually gapped right out of the box. i just got a brand new one yesterday i'll post when i check it.

.010 for mild kits or .012 inches for something you are going to be pushing to higher temp.

this new polini i got is a beauty, its like a totally different kit from last one i bought. fit and finish are almost as good as a $99 airsal, haha.

Welp, everyone repeated "CHECK THE GAP", so I'm doing so. I also read that the cylinder should "drop through", but it takes some pressure to move mine in the cylinder. Is that true for yours? The machine work looks very nice for sure. What head are you using?

The moment You tighten the intake to anything even a few lb the piston will rub!

What I do is first mount the cylinder and head at 9-11 lb then mount the intake after cylinder is locked in,

This (and other stuff) worked for about 20 polini kits without seizure,

yeah i've seen the videos of people doing the intake torque thing but i've never done anything special, i just don't he-man the sucker on.

ken you should order one of the 'new' polinis, they changed the tooling or the manufacturer or something but the appearance of the intake port is totally different. its really nice, i'm excited to see how it runs. this one is going right under the knife for a little bit wider exhaust.

I absolutely love polini kits, had so many I lost track. I got a new one from my co-worker will because he kept on seizing it and was over it. I was skeptical because the new ones casting all dull and not all nice n shiney like the old ones I grown to love. I consider my co-worker a tad better tuner than myself so I was hesitant. Well I gave it a good hone and slapped a new ring on and it’s just like I remembered, mind you I have this on my trike with a proma. Without porting it touches 56mph, think that’s all the proma will allow. Well haven’t bricked it yet and starts first kick every time. Good kits, just goop the base and intake real nice, copper for the head. Also got a custom cut polini head too, it’s a great improvement over the stock hi head. I heart polinis... (edited)
