Thicker studs when upgrading a 50cc to a 70cc?

John Lusignan /

I'm rebuilding a Yamaha Chappy LB50 motor for a friend.

We went with the Polini 70cc cylinder kit, Puch 70cc high compression head, vforce 8 petal reed block, and Mikuni 20mm VM round slide carb. No pipe upgrade as of yet.

My question is this:

I've seen some people talk about retapping the cases to accept thicker cylinder studs. Is this a necessity? I'd rather not if possible but yet I don't want to do all this work only to have a stud break at some point in the future. I realize we're increasing the amount of power significantly from stock. The original studs are M6 btw. IF you need any more info please let me know. Thanks in advance!

No. You'll be fine.

stock diameter studs fine.

I believe the high comp head has shorter bolt hole thickness vs oem, so spacers or shorter studs must be used.

To be honest with you lil dude the best studs are the emo ones.

Basically the metal and quality was way better back then and the studs were rolled.

A rust emo puch stud is still better then a new after market one.

Don’t buy fatter studs you might run into complications if you wanna make up for room so ytge gaskets sits perfect on the ports and the piston is siting nice then use the mlm spacers. Treats puch counter sunk head has to be drill to fit the fatter studs.

The Emo kid? No way

I need a mans man.

Someone who I can just bury my face into his big chest muscles and just wanna live there forever you know?

That emo kid looks like a whiney baby brat. I bet he looks hilarious naked. Like a fucking creature from a swamp or bog or something (edited)

I went to hs with a guy that looked like that. Fancied himself a badass and did not like me for some reason..he ended up throwing a punch and ate shit into the brick wall breaking his nose...and got suspended for his attempt to punch me.lol

Everybody thought I broke his nose, all sorts of things opened up to me after that...think his girlfriend asked me out like week later. She was great..Dude was halarioussss and kept showing up at my house for revenge, too much testosterone...he was crushed when he saw me with his ex...felt bad for the guy
