SKULL PIRATE MODIFICATION
I need to probably drill it open and add adjustability to the assembly with custom holes for the spring to make it a lil more powerful. Also will add a stop if needed.
Cheap af on eBay. Gotta paint it cuz that chrome is awful.

I'd guess that he just adjusted the chain to something near spec . Then applied the tensioner .
In my experience , a tensioner with a strong enough spring will help the adjustment last a lot longer , while lengthening the overall life of the chain .
The tensioner helps eliminate side flex and definitely slap or whip .
It also helps smooth shifts ,, so a bit less wear in the tranny .
My goal is to eliminate this shitty jolt that happens when the power hits from a dead stop. AND try to reduce the chance of twisting off this sprocket shaft that's made of butter.
The feel is like a BANG, and it's caused by slack in the chain. I don't like to run chains too tightly with normal screw adj static tension because it fucks everything up if it goes too tight upon the suspension flexing.
So in this situation I'll have a nice snug chain at takeoff which won't bang the tranny around. Just gotta get the spring tension right.
I can see the adjuster working when I crank the throttle too.
Overall it seems to make the drivetrain much smoother. (edited)

aren't derbris subframed bikes? or some are and some arent? how do mopeds work?
The piston port is not.
Even if it was, a tensioner might help with that chain slack bang

they are there to collect water and then spray it out, thereby dampen-ing everything
or wait, no, i think they are dampers.
Here's a video dampeners being replaced on a small motorcycle you might want to jump into it about a third of the way in.

I added tension today by drilling out the rivet and changing the spring mount points, then replaced the rivet with a bolt
Runs great. Now I gotta add nuts to lock the assembly down, then cut the bolts and paint, and most important loctite

Most chain drive motorcycles definitely are . ;)
A lot of the newer motorcycles went to a belt drive to the rear wheel to get the same effect without having the damper wear out/ breakdown issues.

Looks like the drive shaft has dampeners in it to me. Has little polymer sticks in there
if your your damper gets wet and dampens your brakes your brakes break and break your damper?
how did the damper get dampened? the dampener dampened the damper.
