Non ringing bell

Clutch on my fa50 tends to ring and ding a bit fo no real reason. Bushings are tight, no rub marks. Maybe it just wants to. So I silicone coated it to shut it down. Works great too!

Re: Non ringing bell

I can say that I've never hear the bell on my FA50 ding , ring or sing .

Maybe a PO installed one of those new singing bells . ;)

So where does all of the silicone go once it flys off at 8000 rpm?

I don't fly off... its cured. Has anyone ever scraped silicone off a clean scuffed surface..

Yes i have. Countless times. But experiencing several G’s while sloshing around inside an oil filled trans is a whole different environment than a static cleaned scuffed surface.(edited)

Re: Non ringing bell

Yeah, silicone doesn't belong anywhere near an engine ever.

Cured or not, it ain't gonna last. Heat, expansion, and centrifugal force will inevitably work it loose eventually.

Re: Non ringing bell

I feel ole it will come off with heat and clog up the bearings?

Yell ya what... I'll post the pic of it "if" it comes off.

Some of it might stay . Not likely , but ...

Silicone turns to slimy chunks in any oil bath . Clogs things really well . Specially the things you don't want clogged .

It's exactly the reason you'll never find silicone in any machine from the factory .

So WHEN that happens to you , please be sure to post pics so maybe others that have misguided thoughts will be fortunate enough to take heed . ;)

I will. I know yamabond is silicone based.. just sayin.

Yamabond and the like may root from silicone , but are formulated quite differently .

Just like you and your neighbor are probably human based , but are most likely quite different animals . ;)

Please don't run this. Enough of it will, 99 percent certain, shed to make the xmission oil silicone-gruel gear-ground-up slurry and clog every little oil passage. Catastrophe. Maybe 98 percent certain. Maybe 97. How lucky are you?:)

Re: Non ringing bell

Can you of you machinist dudes make me a clutch bell tuned to ring at A440 so I can tune my guitar with it?

Cool... I'm on 15 miles with it.. all is well.

Well shit. You were right, we were wrong. Sorry bud. If I were you, I'd trust it completely after a grueling fifteen miles and go for a nice, long ride in the country, wide open and far from cell service.

Forgive my sarcasm. Good luck.

Maybe he's out of oil. If it's not in an oil bath it might explain the ringing and dinging. Ever tried to ring a bell under water?

I just may.. lol. And I've never used silicone inside a alchohol dragster or sprint car motors either.. nope.. never.. I've never raced or competed... or worked at Dart cylinder head in Troy Mi. Either... so I'm gonna have to figure this one out...

Itll never hold! Junk! Scrap it! Its unbalanced now.. and you will break the crank with out a doubt!

Your right... I was wrong to think such a thing.. I'll take it to the dealer and have it repaired. They use only OEM Suzuki parts and are certified and licensed to make proper moped repairs. Gezzz I'm going back to what I know best .. My dog poop scooping business.

From the looks of pitting on the teeth and the pitting and scarring on the inside of the bell, i’d think a little noise from the clutch bell is the least of his worries. It’s probably bearing noise.
