i think since the rims r narrow, it limits tire size, i have 2.25 gazelles and they fit but look kinda strange.

Gazelles are also much wider fitting than other tires of the same numerical size.

I can fit a 2.50 16" on the back of my springer ciao ... did it for fun combined with a big puch "chopper" seat and a skinny 2.0 17" front

i have 2.5 hutchinson gp on my 17" spoked rim ciao, they look great and handle great. i'd say 2.5 is perfecto, wouldn't go any fatter. 2.25 if you like the skinny look.
