Pull-Start for QT50 / HPI Stator Kit

Steve Gonzalez /

Hi All,

Great forum you have here. I know this a scooter forum, but I’m working with some QT50 parts and need your help.

I bought an HPI Stator kit for my YT60 (Tr-Zinger). I’ve got the old rotor off the bike and it looks like everything will bolt on OK. The problem I’ve ran into thus far is, the adapter for the pull-start won’t fit on the HPI rotor.

Does anyone know of a pull-start conversion for the QT50? I think one designed for the QT50 would work on this HPI kit and YT60 motor....

Thanks in advance!

Re: Pull-Start for QT50 / HPI Stator Kit

Turn the adapter some, center it and redrill holes in it where holes aren't?

It looks like a close fit, I would just file out those 3 holes so they line up.

There is also this. It's a plate that bolts to the HPI fly wheel and then you can wrap a rope around and pull start. Very rudimentary, but it works. https://www.treatland.tv/HPI-mini-rotor-internal-rotor-pull-start-adaptor-p/hpi-pullstart-kit.htm

I’ll probably do something like that but wanted to explore other options first. Instead of modifying the pulley, I’ll probably turn the hex part of the flywheel down to make it the same diameter as the inside of the pulley.

Treatland sent me that link, too. Looks like a good way to loose skin! Haha!

Haha it looks more dangerous than it really is. The way the grooves are cut, the openings are spinning away from you. Nothing can catch on it. I ran one for a long time and my leg bumped it numerous times, no injuries
