I saw a set of Puch ZA50 racing gears about this time last year on ebay. While I was preparing for a race at the time I couldn't justify (especially with a brand new baby) purchasing it along with the other thousands of dollars I spent to get my bike (my other baby) together. They were bought shortly after I saw them. WHO bought them? Was it worth the $300? Anyone got a set they want to sell? Asking for all my mopeds.
I've only seen one set of ZA race gears and they were very much so custom and one off.
Yea iv never even heard of a set of race gears for a za. They do have some for the e50. To be honest a gear is a gear, except for its weight and is actually ratio.
Yea unless they are strait cut since za's all run helical cut gears that cause thrusting into the case and eminent failure at high power.

The gear ratios were different from the stock.
I think you maybe referring to incorrect shimming that leads to destruction. Guess I'll find out but mine is shimmed properly.

Stock had two different ratios,
1hp had lower gear set then 1.5-2hp gear set so me thinks someone was trying to pull the wool over your eyes
its called diminishing returns once you get to fitting race or straight cut gears
hardly worth the effort.

Straight cut gears by comparison are inherently weak and noisy. I’ll settle for a bit of axial thrust.

I spent a fortune buying some for my 1974 rd350
fitted them expecting massive gains and all I got was 'orrible whining.
theyre still on and have been for 8 yrs only cos I cba to swap them back
tz's had roller main bearings and axial thrust is a no-no, but mine are normal caged roller mains so there was no need.
You might be right Ken. Its been too long for me to remember what the ad was claiming.
