Built this for track. motorized bike races and AMRA.

Started with a cromo 24" bmx frame off eBay. made in China, I think, but has "California Chromoly" stickers on it.

Stretched it 3", raised the down tube and welded up motor mounts, cable guides, etc.

24" x 3" double-walled alloy rims, 105g spokes laced to moped drums.

Minarelli V1 with polini kit, modified ktm 50 xchamber, 16mm mikuni.

Polished 22oz camping fuel bottle tank with quick release mount.

Weighs 68lbs and hauls ass.

Oh, and the "Interceptor" name idea came from the sherriff who stopped me when I was testing it out in the neighborhood. He had the "police Interceptor" sticker on his car...

So name it the "intercepted"....

Lolz

Re: V1 Interceptor

Lmao... intercepted!! Did they ticket you?

Sick build i really like it.

Re: V1 Interceptor

I bet that thing rips, looks fun.

What is the fork from?

Re: V1 Interceptor

No tickets. The OC sherriffs around here are pretty cool (to me, anyway.)

The fork came off a Dyno bicycle the local scrap metal guy had in his truck. Cut down legs, no suspension.

Re: V1 Interceptor

jeesus

if you're on a track with bicyclists, what do they think of that wide open chamber? that looks a wee bit loud.

Re: V1 Interceptor

Looks super cool, but that gas tank might be good for 5 miles max.

The motorized bike guys don't care at all. It's the moped guys who think silencers are needed for racing. With a full face helmet on it's not as loud.

For the street, though, it's loud enough to piss off even the coolest neighbor.

22oz. It'll get me 15 laps full throttle at Grange, which is 7/10ths of a mile long, and Apex and Willow Springs kart tracks are about .5 mile laps, so as long as I fill it before each heat, I'm good.

I'll probably make a slightly bigger tank and a silencer so I can ride it on the street, but this set-up is for the track only.

Re: V1 Interceptor

Silencers are needed for your ear drums, racing or not hearing is pretty important...

Side note, I like having the quiet bike on the track so when I can get really sneaky with passing.(edited)

Re: V1 Interceptor

oh i misread that, i thought you were using this for a derny bike. lol.

I like it loud, so they know I'm right behind them. I wanna get a loud horn and beep at them to really mind-fuck them.

Yes.

If you want to get tricky box in that entire opening in frame for tank. Would only need to stick out an inch or two to each side for adequate volume.

Re: V1 Interceptor

I thought of that, but I don't want the weight. I was gonna make a little in frame triangle tank, but the bottle method is easy, lightweight, and less prone to leakage.

Plus, I can get another one and carry it in a backpack as a spare.

And it looks cool.

Re: V1 Interceptor

This thing RIPPED at AMRA. Wish I got the chance to talk to you about this

Re: V1 Interceptor

hah, sweet - that rules.

would bigger brakes help? I'm shit for racing, usually I just crash, but seems like the folks who do well on the tight tracks are the ones who keep speed longer and brake harder closer to the turns.

do the pedals still work, just mega shorty arms? If so, verymuch a fan.

I've seen dudes like maruichi motorcycle capping the frame tubes and using that as the gas tank on similar setups

Re: V1 Interceptor

Pedals work. Shorty cranks are needed to start it, and to keep it legal for the motorized bike races. Main rules is "must have functioning pedals."

They're cut down one-piece bicycle cranks welded to the cottered crank arms, so I can use 1/2" kids pedals.

I plan on adding some footpegs.

I thought about using the frame tube for fuel, but the bottle system fits the existing water bottle mounts in the down tube I used, and I like the "nitrous" look of it.

Plus, it's removable. I pack the bike into the back of my car, and I can take the bottle off so it doesn't spill and keeps the fumes down.

Brakes work pretty good. Got new shoes, grooved them, sanded the inner drums rough, and drilled some vent holes.

Still might upgrade to disc, if I can figure out the style I want.

Nice talents^

Re: V1 Interceptor

Broke the lower triple tree after crashing it at the race at Apex. Drilled thru it and bolted it for the final. 2nd place. Gotta make new forks.

Re: V1 Interceptor

Stronger than original .

Re: V1 Interceptor

any videos of this thing, it looks awesome

Re: V1 Interceptor

Got new forks, new Polini CP 19mm carb, made a center-bleed pipe with an air-bleed, bigger 30oz tank, and awesome new pedals....

Well? How slow is it?

Re: V1 Interceptor

Cristian Luna /

I saw you at the AMRA race that thing was ripping ! Are you gonna try to make it out to moped gp? Also that coil is wild haha

Re: V1 Interceptor

With the gearing I have for the track (9-42) it's faster than a Prius in the carpool lane.
