Hahaha holy shit. Fuck me.

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

So Been out the loop working and off after that on holiday..

So the RD ... i put the 26mm on using a 24mm in side Dm tube and was going to fit the Kawasaki XS 65 two sided reed .. but I need two read spacers to make it work and they are like $20 each from the EU .. or from bloody China .. seems a rip plus’s shipping .. so kind stood back on that and will search deeper in to the net for a deal ..SO IM STILL on the little stock reed:)

So turns out the front sprocket it’s a dam 12 the back i new was 42 that’s tall gearing ..

And I hitting and holding 60 on the flat ...

Screeming it’s nuts off .

So I have now placed a 37 rear sprocket on ..

It’s hitting 68mph on the flat and feels a little under rev ing .. big drop from 42 to 37 ..

So I had this fairing I got on line for a deal $42 and free shipping..

I think tucked down behind it will let me slip up to 70mph and I may be back in the high end of the power band where it will pull better .

Seems 8000 to 9000 is really the power area at 68 mph I’m at 8200rpm .

Put it on but had way to many beers to test it out 😎.. still no tags till next Tuesday DMV trip :)

So that’s it for tonight... beers flowing wife has fixed some food 10 10 till we do it again

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

So I got the jetting better ... it’s pulling strong even changing up early in each gear now got a 115 main and it’s holding 68mph on the flat ... I need to play with the gearing to break 70mph .

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

Hello, I was actually searching for info on a 1972 Yamaha JT2 60 that I rebuilt and found this site. Can you tell me what all have you done to your engine? About 7 years ago I completely overhauled the engine because the bearings were all bad. I have honed the cylinder and installed new rings as everything else was already bored oversized when I got it. The absolutely insane thing about this cool little bike is it shifts backwards!!! 1st gear is up and the other 3 gears are down. I love the bike but hate it at the same time. I mean why would ANY engineer especially from Yamaha do that? It was suppose to be a little kids first motorcycle and they screw up their shift pattern right from the get go.

Anyway it's a rotary valve and I put quite a bit of work into the engine. It still ran like poop, sounded lazy and just lacked any real pep. I was about 185lbs at the time and this thing would barely hit 45 MPH. The head is simple to pop off so I took a closer look. Then it dawned on me the little bike had 7.1 compression!! What I did was basically cc'd the head and then I resurfaced it to remove 2cc's I believe. A compression test revealed a considerable bump in pressure and the difference in sound and power was very noticeable. I'm sorry I didn't document any of this very well at the time so I'll have to reproduce the whole scenario. My point is if you are still running the 6.9:1 compression you could quite possible bump that up to 10:1 and really wake that little engine up. After my bump in compression I was hitting about 55 MPH but it's on dirt bike tires and I was a bit over weight at the time too LOL...

https://www.yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/60-80cc-specs/90-71-72-jt1-jt2-specifications

Anyway I would love to find something just like what you have there and try all the little tricks and mods I did to the JT2 60 and see how they work.

Take care

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

Trying to remember.. didn't the old tri-moto three wheelers have that shift pattern?

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

Fortunately I never owned a terrible triangle... Probably one more reason they banned them in the mid 80's...

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

Who makes that fairing Ted Emgo?

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

No the fairing is not emgo some China thing I will find a pic of the e bay order and post ..

As for the JT1 gear Patten ? Nothing to do with the RD .. but if you follow my FS1e build your know the fs1e motor is a JT1 or JT2 motor but with a short crank 39.5 not 42mm and the bore is 40mm not 42mm

The little JT1 60 or JT2 is a 4 speed same as all fs1s after 1970 they have 4 gears the gear Patton is 4 down .

The only way you have a JT1 or JT2 with a Patton of one up 3 down is .... it’s not a JT1 or 2. now if the RD 60 had the gear lever on backwards and you where riding with your foot on a rear peg you would shift one up 4 down .. witch I will do after i take the foot pegs off ..and move the rear brake peddle back like rear sets .

PM me and we can go over this . I don’t like high compression.. if I can get the speed all other ways I will . Bigger bore bigger carb pipes porting etc ... high comp helps punch off the line but can kill high RPMs .... for top speed runs it’s not the best and with little motors I find it’s more pistons going pop and bottom ends knocked out for .... not what I am aiming at ..

Oh I just got this 400f ? Yep never ever was going to be see dead on a Honda :) but as I just turned 60 ... i don’t think it will kill my MO JO .. now .. it’s like at 75 may need a walking stick ... it’s part of the long path ..

Still would not be seen dead on a Honda ped .. :)

I’m thinking lots of mods for the 400 :)

It’s like a ped but bigger ... right :)

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

Thanks for link to the fairing. I been trying to find one that has a tall windshield.

More of a man ped ..

so PM me if you want a really cool sticked up hot RD ... that will make you the leader of your local ped gang.. I was

the leader of mine in 1976 77 ...:)

So I know what it’s like :)

Your love it 🐶like a puppy ..

So I’m not far from Disney orlando.. so you can pick it up and pop by there and do Mickey .... . If that’s what your in too 😉

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

Got to work on my RD60 project a little bit before I move to the cities. Put on the new Heidenau K36/1 tires i’ve had sitting around this week. In the process I discovered all the bearings were gross and oil seals worn out. Thought I’d leave this here incase anyone wants to do wheel work and want to know what they need beforehand. I’ve never seen three bearings in a rear wheel before but this one does in the sprocket hub. I got double rubber seal ones but the originals are almost all one side metal shielded. front wheel is 6300 btw.

Any rd60 owners got a part number for this seal?

I believe it's the part between 17 and 24

Re: Yamaha RD60 Megathread (Shifty50 content)

It’s the same seal on a JT1 or also FS1 and all them 100cc and less look up jT1 and see if they have the number listed. Odd they mist it on here
