So I and a friend have the same 78 yellow pintos.
His configuration:
New biturbo for e50
stock 12 intake and carb
up jetted to 58.
He is getting 35 solid.
Mine:
circuit pipe
15 mm clone carb and intake
stock 82 jet (I went up and down and 78 jet gets me 31 mph).
I am getting 30 mph...

How far down did you go? I ran a 68 with similar setup.
Count teeth on front and rear sprockets as gear ratio will give an edge....most likely 45T on rear and could be 12, 13, 14, 15, 16T ??? on front.....with kit you can run 16 x 40 and roll Treats sells many different sizes...

my guess - main jet to large. I put a new carb on my Towny with following results:
so here's what jetting can do - I put the vm18 on my towny. With 92.5 jet it did 31 mph. Dropped to an 87.5 and it did 33 mph. dropped to an 82.5 and it did 36 mph. dropped to an 80 and it did 37. I don't have a 77.5 but that would probably be perfect and I bet I'd get 38 mph out of it.
7 mph just in jetting.

I just wanna be clear here. I have upgraded pipe, upgraded carb and intake on one and it is being smoked by 5 mph by a biturbo pipe upgrade on the exact same make and model year. I will check the teeth. I am thinking weaker compression and jet too big.
Your friend might actually go slightly faster with a 60/62 jet. I've hit high 30's with similar setups.

At least you recognize that you are doing something majorly wrong. Those are pitifull speeds for both bikes. Read this site for more education and put time in experimenting with your new found knowledge. Obviously consider the gearing. 16X45 is nice for the stock cylinders. Learn to time the bike. Consider air leaks, compression, widening the exhaust port, an intake w/o a 90 degree bend in it.

Now mine going 30 with just a pipe is okay. But with the 15mm intake and carb... some shit aint right.
By the way, I am a member form the original Decepticons in the 90s form Kazoo and owned a moped in the 70s. I had 27 peds in my garage two years ago.. yeah got a problem. So, I am not ignorant to peds by any measure. I am old and forget a lot o shit thou!

Your friend may be too lean as well. Hope it lasts. If you can get the biturbo in the right rpm range, it will skedaddle. Seems to me it is more of a top end pipe.

Timing before jetting.
Without knowing anything else, 82 seems way too large if you're talking about a Dellorto SHA 15 on that setup. I ran an e50 with Airsal 70 case matched, 16.16, and bullet pipe with a 72 jet for a long time. (edited)
