weakest doppler clutch pulley springs?

Does anyone know what the weakest doppler clutch springs are?

Or just the size?

the ones that come installed stock are pretty weak.

look like paperclips.

they suck.

not to thread jack but ive never actually found a mention of what springs work in those clutches . i dont think treats has a listing and usually when i google it there so much talk of vespa, derbi, hobbit springs.

ive been meaning to look for some stiffer ones. ;)

to tune them people typically add/shave weights off the clutch segments, it does the same thing as different springs. I think a few people tried some scooter springs but they were far too much

BUMP

the standard springs fitted in my er86 are biting at around 8k which is too high for my

low tuned motor.

5 years on from this thread are weaker ones now available?

You can adjust the spring tension on the er86. Not sure what the 'lowest' and 'highest' settings yield though.

Re: weakest doppler clutch pulley springs?

That’s weird, my experience was that the weakest springs, even in the maxed out adjustment, let the shoes flop around too much and ding off the bell at idle because they were too weak.

where did you buy the "weaker" springs?

You sure your vari isn’t just slipping?

Re: weakest doppler clutch pulley springs?

Alan Jackson /

its a newly fitted er3

i dont think it is slipping

ill have a good look

i might be able to mount a camera to see whilst riding

Is it the idler bearing version of the er3 or no?

Your shoes might be bound up at the posts on the pulley.. do the shoes move freely without springs?

Re: weakest doppler clutch pulley springs?

Alan Jackson /

i dont think its the idler bearing version

it just bolts on and is solid. not clutch or kickstart version

i havent taken the er86 clutch bell off yet but i will later today. i turned the adjusting screws as far anti clockwise as i could. they were set quite near to this point. if i turn them clockwise i feel them tensioning up the springs so am sure i have it set to weakest.

i had copied your clutch mod jbot with a tiny adjustable tweak, but the springs were too stiff and even a tiny bit of their influence made it slip

ive taken the clutch to bits. the shoes were free to move, i could move them before taking the bell off. it came with a spare set of stronger springs. so im looking for some weaker springs.

until then ill make my own out of piano wire, a vice and a drill and a load of prayers.

weaker springs made no difference?

im uploadind a vid on a new thread highlighting a weird problem

Wait are you running a front clutch and pulley clutch?

Re: weakest doppler clutch pulley springs?

Alan Jackson /

no that pic was just showing off how clever i am modding someone elses (your) mod.

im now running an er3 variator without clutch

and an er86 clutch pulley.
