Made New Jawa Thyristor

adam branson /

Well Ive just made up this thyristor (for jawa 207 )

I solder it all up and just made an placed in a plastic container for now until i find something smaller to put it in

I havent had time to test it out i just broke a piston ring and reordered it should be here thur

so as soon as rings get here ill test out and will let u know how it works!!!!!!!!!!

You should put that in a small project box and seal it in resin to keep the components from jiggling .

Re: Made New Jawa Thyristor

it might need a heatsink on that lil' SCR/transistor guy there.

Re: Made New Jawa Thyristor

nice, ^^like your project box

Re: Made New Jawa Thyristor

year of the jawa is happening... just saying.

well got piston rings on and started and rode a little today

so hooked up diy thyristor and it works got good spark off of

not going to run just yet want to find box it fits in better

just say year of jawa

Re: Made New Jawa Thyristor

i did that once, thing would fire serious bolts of lightning

then i rigged a positron bicycle shifter (it's a push/pull cable) so i could manually adjust the timing by pushing or pulling a loose stator. it didnt work very well...

Hard to tell from the picture... the solder joints might be a bit "cold"

I would also keep an eye on heat levels on that. Still, looks like a nice candidate for a simple PCB layout. These thyristors blow pretty often, huh?

it is my understanding that they are prone to failure

when i got jawa ii 1st ordered before testing

(seller worked and motorcycle shop and he couldnt get to go)

im still using purchased one

but i like to make/build own stuff

so i ordered parts

to make a back up

Cool!

If you'd like to make it a bit more tidy/compact someday, some copper veroboard or even copperless perfboard

) would be a good idea.

The leads go through the holes, then you solder on the other side. Then you can arrange the parts tighter together and they stay mechanically secured.

Re: Made New Jawa Thyristor

Radio Shack has those boards and project boxes too, some with metal for heat sinks.
