Need ideas to build my Puch Maxi II Za50

Spencer Cappon /

Today I Bought a 1978 Puch Maxi II ZA50 2hp model. Ive owned a maxi with a za50 setup before but sold it awhile back. The new bike has 900 original miles and is all stock and runs like brand new. So far I plan on driving this bike on the road as an everyday driver. I want to modify the bike cosmetically as well as mechanically but still have a reliable bike. I'm looking for ideas on what do to make this bike look pretty cool. I don't really have a budget set as I don't know whats possible. I kinda want a cafe racer type of look but I have no idea where to start.

I will be ordering shift pucks from atomic very shortly as I know that's the first thing that needs to be done on these bikes. I don't want to touch the motor until I get the bike in the Cosmetic shape that I am aiming for. Could you possibly point me towards a good seat and bars for the bike. To lower the bars I assume I would need shorter cables.

I have some ideas starting to flow for the bike. I see people chopping the rear fenders. Now I live in New york state. If i chop my rear fender am I going to be legal with no tail light?

Way too nice to chop imo...

Standard treatment is a long seat, and low bars if you have long arms.

mine:

this one I might chop the tail, pretty beat up:

Re: Need ideas to build my Puch Maxi II Za50

I have a question about the seat suggestion.

I have 86 maxi with the long seat and my fanny and to some extent my back get a bit sore after a long ride. Just picked a 80 Puch Newport ll Za50 that had a nice single seat with the spring. I put that on the 80 Maxi and it seems to be a lot more comfortable.

Is it just me or perhaps I have a bad full length seat but do the single seats offer a more comfortable ride? (edited)

If that would be legal or not in your state shouldn't even be your concern.

Common sense should tell you that riding with no tail light isn't safe. Period.
