Good luck with the the toothpick forks, they will be hard to make stable with that kinda stopping power.

But I am curious...

forks are getting changed also i should have them today...

Re: fa 50 disc brake conversion

nice. looking forward to seeing it. I did one on a QT a bit ago

i just cut the bike hub in half and bolted that to the ped hub.

if i woulda spaced out my axle properly, it woulda been pretty alright

Why did you place the caliper so far away from the forks? It'll be that much easier to flex your stick welding job on the fork tube in a panic stop. I've got a similar caliper and rotor setup on maxi ebrs. Heres the previous owners hack job:

And my new bracket thats snug to the fork tube:

I admire your resourcefulness, but braking is no place to slap shit together and call it good. Have you ground down some of the weld and check for porosity? Any tig welders in your town that can do it right?

not just slapping shit together still working on placement of caliper. its really not that far away from fork only about 21/2" to 3' from fork and all the brake pad is making contact with rotor .... and yes i do grind and check welds....i,m not new to this joe. ive been a mechanic/fabricator for 25 + years....this is still a work in progress

Haha 21/2 inches to 3 feet away, I love typos

oooooppps hate it when that happens

Re: fa 50 disc brake conversion

ya, greg's brake looks just fine to me. he put it in the right spot so all the force is compression against the fork. his weld is just holding the caliper straight.

mine, on the otherhand, was a POS because the braking force was trying to pull my weld apart

Re: fa 50 disc brake conversion

What parts do I need for this conversion OP ?
