What axles, spacers and parts to do this on snowflakes off a Sachs mounting to a Tomos

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

***Kim Jong illest*** /

for those running rear discs, what are you doing to accommodate chain length difference, say between regearing? are your rear calipers on any kind of slider?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Ed - Dead Possums /

My rear caliper mount bracket attaches to the axle and has a slotted hole for the shock bolt. Loosen everything, move wheel, line caliper up. Easy.

Bump for more Moby 6 star info. How many guys have done this with success?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Will hopefully be implementing this method on a pair of my qt50 rims soon, that's if I can find the correct pulley. Thankfully it's 90mm but the "original" pulley up top is sadly not the same now. Not sure what to look for now.

Try and use s flywheel from another moped brand like I did and it will be more durable being that it's hardened metal

If you're referring to the GM pulley listed by the OP - this is the one I purchased last year that they still have available online...

GM OEM-Drive Belt Idler Pulley 12580773 (9035)

Same dimensions of the one the OP listed just an updated version.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Did anyone find a 105mm pulley? Looking for a ds50 wheel

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Ed - Dead Possums /

I have looked for 105mm but never found anything.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

On my hobbit mags, i took a shaft collet that was slightly smaller than the OD of the drum, machined holes into it and press fit it onto the wheel. bam. been running nice and steady for a solid 3 months with no issues. Will make my bike endo every time.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Only Question I have is what do you have to mod to get the stock speedo drive to work on Snowflake with disc swap ?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Since you have to convert to 12mm sealed bearings for the mod, you have to drill out the speedo to fit a 12mm axle. After that, the speedo drive is on the opposite side of the brake plate so you don't have to mod anything else on the speedo drive. you will just have to get all the axle spacer sizing figured out.

I'm using a sealed bearing kit from Treats.

But how is the speedo gear supposed to work with the sealed Bearings, there not Notched like the stock one ?

And before someone says it No it's not the exact

Sealed bearing , I already have them installed

But this one is same size..

Just use a GPS phone app.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

In case anyone cares - the 80mm benz pulley works for motobecane VLA/le moped mags as well. I used a scooter rotor with like a 65mm bolt pattern. I had to grind off some of the heads of the nuts/bolts (dont remember orientation) on the inside, to clear the outside of the pulley.

I could but already ordered and revived my new stock

80-mph Speedo. Guess I will just have to make something work, because that's what I do...

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Got everything bolted up , only issue is with speedo drive mounted now mounted on left side, if you spin front wheel the speedo goes Backwards ?

What am I missing here ?

Why would you want to go forwards? By going backwards you can see yourself riding with the new sweet brake setup.

why did you flip the wheel around exactly? or, rather, why is your speedo drive on the other side?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

The Mercedes pulley fits in the Peugeot starfish 5 star wheels. The only problem is there’s no space to bolt the pulley to the wheel.

I’m thinking I might be able to run the bolts through the hub and fasten them on the other side of the wheel on the flat area.

Anyone see any possible problems doing this?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Ed - Dead Possums /

I have seen that done with success.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Thanks I didn’t know if the stress from braking would start ripping through the hub or not.

My other thought was to get a larger rotor and mount it where the steel is riveted to the aluminum hub but I would have to drill out the rivets which could turn into a mess and a wonky wobbly wheel

Here's the updated link to the rotor.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Alibaba.com is where I got my rotor to fit on the pulley.

Search for "XXXmm motorcycle brake disc" (whatever size)

Tons of styles and sizes with different diameter centers for different applications. Usually you have to wait for shipping from china though. lots of good prices.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Any chance that will bolt right up to a nu50 or na50?
