TRES RAYOS. ADAM S. /

For Tomos or Vespa 105mm brakes you could do a Goodyear pulley #49026 (100mm) and shim or wrap the pulley with 13 gauge steel (2.38mm) and get 104.76mm. once its in and bolted to the hub you should be all good. I haven't tried this yet but will be soon. If you use 12 guage steel (2.78mm) you would have to sand it down to fit cause of the 105.56mm circumference. Hope this helps!(edited)

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Thanks for posting this can't wait till i do it on my 1979 sears free spirit. Love to see pics on how to do them on the back tire though. For me back tire is more important then the front cus it the first press when ya brake.

That lip on those is 105mm, the rest is at 90mm.

Here is a 105mm one I made out of a solid chunck of alu.

Did those rotor mount holes line up perfect on the motobecane mags?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Ed - Dead Possums /

No. That's a front mag, with the same pulley that the rotor mounts to.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Bump anybody ever find a pulley with a 105mm OD?

The rear disc off of some of KTM's dual sport bikes will match the 125mm spacing of Moby mags. The disc's are 5mm thick though.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Why is this not in the wiki????

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Well I retired my Peugeot spoke conversion after a few thousand miles. Still working great. I just upgraded to mags with the Treats rotor.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

If I want to do front and rear disc brakes do they have to be on opposite sides of the wheel? Or can they both be on one side?

I imagine on a heavy ass motorcycle it probably makes a difference but does it matter on a moped?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

FWIW Napa's online store has a nice cross reference system and lists dimensions for most parts. Makes it convenient when you're trying to figure out how and what to adapt to a non-stock fitment. If I remember you want to visit the full site, the mobile version isn't as useful.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Discs can be on either or both sides, no difference.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Bump for mobys

How thick are your spacers?

Any other moby 6 star success stories?

Used: Eagle III 17" 7 Star Mag Wheels

Iskra Flywheel 102mm

Flywheel ID was modified to 42mm to fit the OD of seal bearing hub of mag.

All tap and die for M7 x 100 and M8 x1.25 to secured on flywheel to hub. Nuts were tack welded Inside of flywheel for added security. 7mm steel spacers used to fit disc brake to brake caliper.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

very nice.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Bump. I just wasted so much time and effort building disc breaks for some 5 stars. I should have dug for this thread.

I just naturally over kill everything.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

todd amundson /

These inner placed hub pulleys r rad at just over 90mm but you gotta true em when the disc is installed. I used 3M panel bonding epoxy with 33000 shear strength. I coated the outside of the pulley and inside of the brake drum. Glued it together and trued it letting it cure overnight then fastened it with hardware.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Bump from the dead again, what are you guys running for rotors? Most rotors I've found are 190mm or less. I'm trying to find a 200+mm rotor that can bolt to an 80mm hub.

I am using this .

It's less ninja star than everyone else is doing and it does the jerb.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

If anyone is interested, I started a Wiki page for this cause none of you ped-heads did.

http://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Disc-brake_conversion

I'm going through this long ass thread to pick out information to add, its under construction and there's a ton of shit to get references for.

If you feel like editing the wiki when you find parts that fit, tools, wheelsets etc. go for it.
