Fyi, I just measured a puch spoked hub and it was 79.75mm(edited)

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Word to your momma Marty.

So .1275mm material might or might not be necessary?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

M∆®†Y Køk€š /

.25mm

idk, I picked up one of those 80mm benz pulleys. I'll report back my findings

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

.25 total, so .1275 on opposite sides would equal .25 total?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Yep

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Bump

Got the benz pulley in, looks like it'll be perfect for the leleu hub. I was able to push it in a little way by hand and so I'm sure you can pound it all the way in without taking any material off the edges.

I still need to cut out the center and pick up a rotor, but wanted to make sure this would fit in the hub first.

I'm not sure if these are the ones you're referring to, but I held the pulley up to these guys too and and looks like it would work on them as well.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Marty! Pound it in!

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

I have a rear disk on a puch rear. Ish was easy. Just drill holes and bolt it on. Donezo...

I just bought mine off ebay, just do a search for Part# 1042001070 and pick the cheapest one.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Bought it. I guess figuring out spacers is going to be fun. For sure swapping my EBR hydros on the 103 now and I already have a pit bike brake system to swap over.

So cut the center out then add spacers as needed right ?

I'm in process of doing some moby 6 stars as well. Front and rear. Doing thing them pretty much just like I did the rear on my puch. Waiting on the machined parts. will post once I get it going.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Got my Merc pulley for the LeLeu hubs. Looks to be a perfect fit. I pressed out the bearing with my 3 ton arbor press.

How the fuck do you center up the disc to drill the mount holes in the pulley? I really don't want to get it off center.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Ed - Dead Possums /

I just eye balled it and got it almost right on. It will be ok if it's off a sixteenth or so. As long as it is true/flat when you spin it.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Cool. I'm just a perfectionist on little details, not so much on the bigger stuff that should be perfect.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

if you are mounting the brake caliper afterwords, or if there is some definite room between the disk and the caliper body, it's fine, otherwise theres a small potential for rub which will make noise where it contacts that springy plate, or if you don't have a springy metal plate, it can get jammed against the caliper body itself.

Finding the center can be done with some geometry tricks, or if you are lazy like me, you can just print out a circle on paper or something and line that up.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Getting it centered will not be an issue. The Merc pulley has 3 holes in it. those 3 holes almost line up with the big center hole on the Chinese 4 bolt rotors. So if you can just barely see the edge of all the smaller holes then it's centered. Clamp and drill.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

I got the pulley and rotor lined up like I said above then used super glue to lock it in place so I can drill it. Super solid right now and will be drilling it today.

Looks great! What rotor is that?

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

MARTY, Do you even need to cut the center? Almost looks like that bearing in the idler hub has a 12mm ID?

I think I used 10mm x 16mm x 1.0 bolts for this. I decided to put the bolts on the inside so the nuts are exposed because the bolts were a really tight fit against the inside of the hub.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

M∆®†Y Køk€š /

@curbcast yes I cut the center out. Making use of the pulley's bearing isn't really an option. The center of the pulley extends to same depth as the outside and makes contact with the center of the hub, so you wouldn't be able to insert it into the hub.

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

Easy peasy

Re: Snowflake Disc Brake - DIY w/PICs

No shimming required I see; good to know.

Excellent R & D ya'll

Did these the same as I did the rear snowflake. These are Moby 6 star though.
