I feel my mopeds chain is a bit loose and noticed the low end is pretty slow. It takes some time to finally hit a speed where it starts accelerating and then it just rips. Before I do any adjustments, i'm just wondering if a looser fitting chain could be the issue.
Does chain tension affect acceleration?
Re: Does chain tension affect acceleration?
Loose chain will wear the gears prematurely as the chain is always climbing up the sprocket teeth.
Tight chain will cause resistence and drag as well as wear prematurely.
Worn out chain will wear both sprockets (quickly) and risk snapping.
Best is to have the chain with 1/2 inches slack with the bike fully laden and make sure the chain is properly lubricated, get chain wax from a dirt bike place.
