DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

I don't have any crush gaskets, and can't wait for a shipment right now.

so I got some 1/8 copper tubing I found at the hardware store.

1/16 hole inside

Heat it with a fire or torch til red, then quench immediately

Grind/sand edges in a wedge and opposite wedge pattern ,

then bend around a scrap of handlebar (7/8)

Anneal again (heat/quench)

Plop it in and tighten and off you go!

I put the wedge side towards the head so it cant expand outward.

I needed it because I just finished modifying my hacked up combo pipe after derestricting it...

I hate those simonini silencers!!!! So restrictive...had to chop that up too.

With the restrictive pipe it hit the powerband, but no power anywhere else.

Now it finally has power in a much broader range.

the things people do to make their hobbits run cooler.

anyway, I like your bike. good job.

Re: DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

Probably could have solder the ring shut, but it doesn't matter really. Nice work. Your moped looks like a pony keg of beer on wheels.

Re: DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

Whoops, it was labeled as 1/8,

But it's actually 3/16 diameter, with a 5/64 hole.

Re: DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

My hobbit is most likely the coolest running hobbit now with no hpi or water cooling.... Now that the restriction in the pipe is gone, I can barely get it to 375, even with mountainous hills.

Works for me!

neato!

my favorite Is the athena hobbit gasket I got from Ryan N. I got a few of em now.

hey jbot so I need to find the same fan you got. Honda elite rad fan or something. I would love to rock a hood scoop on my hobbit.

Re: DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

EXCELLENT IDEA!!!

Re: DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

The fan I use is off of a Honda elite 250 or helix 250.

They are about $20 on eBay.

I blasted in the extreme heat at Calirally yesterday (102deg I think)

And it seemed that the scoop and fan did their job. I did a survey of the riders with cht's, and all the different highly tuned bikes were running 420-430 wot, and that's right where mine was staying as well.

Then once I slowed down the temps dropped fast, unlike usual with a heat soaked DR.

The only downside was that I didn't adjust rollers for my newly lengthened and modified pipe, so I wasn't fully variating. Getting close but I was a bit too light..

Sad to see Dave and his 612deg seize....:(. Ouch!

Re: DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

612* I thougt the trail tech maxed out @ 500* . Thats where mine stays .

Re: DIY crush gasket for hobbit/moby just in case

612!!!?!?!! HOLY!!!! CALIRALLY!!!! Wish I was there bro!!!
