a35 jug on a3, no low end!

We think compression is good, jetting might be a little off still. Refuses to move and bogs at low rpms. Are the reeds too stiff?

Ported a35 jug, treats za50 cdi, 15.15 sha, tecno estoril pipe. Stock piston with reed transfer windows cut into it. Treats generic reed plate. Have some boyesen dual stage reeds I'm going to throw on tonight.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Ported into a boat anchor, timing wrong, jetted wrong..one of those for sure.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

What's your jet at? Piston in upside down?

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Pistons good, tried a 68, 64 and 62 jet. Plug looks ok. Should be timed good. Definitely feels like the reeds aren't working in the low revs. Should be ported well, rumor has it Devin Biek ported it.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

drop the jetting down to a 58-60 ...check your reeds

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Piston in upside down?

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Oh, also, moves real good at higher rpms. Got it to 35 in a short stretch, still had headroom.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Get a port map of the jug... that'll tell ya if it's an anchor or not. I've done a bunch of port work to my a35 and don't have too great of a low end but the mid and top end is sweet, totally makes up for it.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

too many "shoulds" get some tools and do it right.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

restricted airflow into the carb and it started running well. hit 37, had great low end, just a little stutter at the bottom of the rev range. however, i blew a gasket or fucked up my reeds or fouled a plug after leaving the shop last night, so i've got a little work to do.

so, if it runs with restricted airflow, doesn't that mean i should be able to open it up and jet it a little better and possibly get it to perform a tiny bit better? could this be a symptom of a dirty carb? it's still pretty new, and it was running with a different setup just fine before i did the top end swap.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Upjet.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

upjet? you suuuuure about that?

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Hey hey..so you are jetted wrong..go figure..........

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

hey, man. be nice. i spent two nights in the shop trying jets from 62 to 68. have a 62 in right now. and it needs to go up? it was acting the same with the 68, would only take off if you shove your finger into the carb and block it off a bit.

either upjet or u have an air leak...obvious if u cut off airflow and it runs better

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

alright. i'll take a look at it. i was thinking it might have something to do with the reeds. neither Andy Howse nor i have experience with reed bikes, and we had just done a fairly intense top end swap. i'll check for leaks and upjet.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Is this a stock A35 jug on a stock A3 bottom end? Did you get the wrist pin difference worked out somehow or is yours one of the rad A3 with the 12mm pin?

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

nope, it's a stock a3 piston, with the windows cut. stock a35 jug, stock a3 bottom.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

Upjet dummy

Did you cut the skirt to match the a35 piston? I cant remember what it was BUT you had to do more that just cut windows in a a3 piston to get it to work in a a35 cylinder. I was going to do that also but if you compair a a3 piston to a a35 iston you will see what im talking about.

Re: a35 jug on a3, no low end!

i dunno, man. i just compared them, and they're identical except for the windows and the inner diameter. and i had it in there, and it worked fine.
