Silly Tire Size Question

Hi, I've got a 1978 Garelli Supersport XL LTD.

It's probably one of my prized possessions and also notably my first moped.

This might sound silly but I'm a little confused on what tire/tube size goes on these 16 inch rims.

Everywhere I see that they are just 16 in rims and I see nothing about the width or anything else.

I'm sure you guys would know, any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Re: Silly Tire Size Question

I'm not 100 percent sure I understand the question, but I'll give it a shot.

Width is nearly irrelevant to rim size. Most 16" moped tires come in sizes around 2.25 to 2.75 inches. These will all fit almost any 16" rim.

However, the limiting factor is likely your rear swingarm. Depending on how much clearance, or space, you have between the tire and the swingarm/frame, you may be limited to a narrower tire.

Most of mine fit a 2.5 inch tire just fine, but 2.75 seems to be a stretch on some. Your mileage may vary, however, depending on your bike.
