a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

Here's my setup:

1980 a3

Tecno Estoril

Puch Hi-Comp head

15.15 SHA on custom intake. 66 or 68 jet, i believe.

Treats ZA50 CDI, timed to about 2mm btdc

only barely hits 30. I know I should get more out of it. Stock maxi's blast by me. Bogs down a heluva lot on hills.

My carb is on a weird custom intake that's really not so great. it's tilted backwards from level, away from the intake. only a few degrees though. And the intake is this weird windy thing that was kinda thrown together for me by a guy somewhere down south. it's not bad, but i think it might be what's holding me back. It's got a couple fairly tight angles, 90 degree curved bends. a couple of them.

Should i spring for the MLM a3 intake? I know Andy Scouten would tell me to swap to an a35 cylinder. i don't want to mess with that anymore. i've already swapped cylinders once, and i don't have any leaks, and i'm trying not to have to fuck with the things i know are working.

Any adviceeeee?

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

My advice is to quit sucking at working on mopeds so we can ride.

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

Mine with a 28 tooth front. Bi turbo and no air box

64 main jet stock intake and sanded down head was hitting 34 on flat ground

With a 26 front was hitting 31 and climbing hills good

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

it really seems like you should be getting more out of that though. they're not slow bikes.

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

What plug are you running and what does it look like?

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

downjet to 58-60

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

haha come on now you didn't tell me your intake was so funky! you want a stock a3 sha intake? i has an extra

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

Nah, the 15.15 wouldn't fit in there with the stock. B6hs plug. Looks good, not bogging when it runs. Little oil around the threads, but fairly even medium brown color. Not grey. Not oily black.

Retime it at 1.8mm btdc and drop down to a 58-60 like the other guy said.

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

Can definitely not time it further without a but of work. And I swear, by the looks of the plug, it's not too rich. I don't want to run too lean and end up seizing.

a 15/15 will fit, its the same size as the 14/12

also you need a cooler plug, the 6 was good for stock burning off the 30:1 mix it used to use, however now that your running normal oil at a decent mix you should be using a b7hs or b8hs

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

FIX YER BIKE ALREADY. Seriously though, if you need jets let me know. You can try out the 60 you gave me and I can order more... I have to soon anyway.

Re: a3 tuning isssssuuuueees.

I had a 14.12 with a stock intake, but both that one and my 15.15 don't have the angled cable guide, so I'd have to find a replacement for the top. Besides, I like the look of the side facing intake, and it's easier to work on.

My old Airsal 65cc setup with 12mm SHA and techno bullet and high comp head used to pull mid 40's on flat. Trust me now, going for an A35 kit on an A3 is seriously worth it. the reed valve really picks up the low-mid range and the porting is aggressive I find... Improvements EVERYWHERE. Felt twice as powerful as the standard cylinder.
