Decking/Cutting a squish @ home

I used an angle grinder and a dremel to deck and cut a new squish on a treats hi comp head yesterday. proof a little creativity can get the job done. The decking was done nearly the same as cutting the squish. the angle grinder was held in the vice and the head was moved around under the wheel. 120, 220, 320, and 400 grit wet sanding was used to hone it in. Took a little over 1.5mm off the head.

The end result was a huge low end gain. No head leaks at all and no gasket, gasketmaker or spray or anything. just aluminum on aluminum. after the carbide cut, it was grinded and then sanded with 220, 320 and 400 grit.

here's how i cut the squish. the dremel is in the vice and the head rotates on the plug

i forgot to take a final picture before i threw it back on the ped. I'll grab one soon

You shouldnt sand alum with courser than 400 grit. It can creates scratches that can be too deep to sand out without removing A LOT of material. Otherwise. Wow. This is a interesting method.

dont forget to clean out your spark plug! i'll have to give a try i've always just decked them on plate glass and outsourced the squishes- thanks for sharin'

Just add duct tape and red & green spenders and you have a TV show.

Very nice. Anyone trying this will want to secure the tool in the vise very well because if it broke loose it could gouge the piece

this thread is not breaking new ground on decking, just showing a nice video about cutting the squish.

Bump, was looking for some ideas on DIY squish cutting for this behemoth of a head for a very special kit/project.....

Very clever rotating the head on the spark plug threads, as you turn the threads you advance the head further into the bit, but I'd think that would make for a spiral/uneven squish no?

Anyway, if you're trying this...I would get a "contour gauge" like this to help match the piston dome's profile to the head!

I got an old piston and drilled the crown, covered it in gritpaper and fastened it to a long piece of 8mm stud with nuts holding it and the gritpaper in place.

put stud in a drill

I put a mastic tube nozzle in the spark plug hole to protect the threads and keep the stud centralized and spun away.

I even put a small circle of grit on the crown first so the top grit was more angled than the piston and gave me the perfect squish.

I still blew it all up
