fuck bing carburetors

i've blown far too much money, spent way too much time researching bing carburetors, spent way too much time tinkering with my bing, and am overall just way too frustrated to keep screwing around with the damned thing at all. fuck it.

that being said, i'd like to begin using a different carburetor than a bing but i'm not sure exactly what to get. i don't want to kit out my engine or anything (for now, at least). i want to keep the same 50cc setup i have on there now. so. what carburetor would any of you recommend i get? what size will work best with my e50? i'm guessing i'll need a new intake.. any suggestions on which will go best with whatever you think is the best carb for my setup?

I think your tuning skill is just lacking.

P.S.

It might not be that the bing is the problem with your moped.

Timing , spark ,condenser, low compression, plugged exhaust, plugged fuel system, spark plug or its gap. (edited)

yea it helps illustrate that you're not trying hard enough.

you want to know what's the best carb for a completely stock e50? a bing 12. maybe you need a new one? maybe you just need to figure out what's wrong with your old one?

that said, i don't much like bings on anything performance, and even less so the knockoff clone bings. I've had good luck with SHA's on mild setups like ported stock and pipe or even milder kitted builds. Some of the clone SHA's like Dakar are quite good, and the arrbeo are OK too but weak. The full on no-name knockoffs from ebay and such however are pretty much straight garbage. You could easily get a genuione dell'o SHA 14:12 off buy/sell here and use it with a SHA intake from treats or 77 if you're sure you wanna ditch the bing.

I've got a working dellorto 14.12 and intake for an e50 i will sell you.

just bolt down the intake hook up the gas and throttle and go; problem solved.

i understand how to tune my carburetor... and the problem isn't my condenser, compression, plug, gap, etc ether. the problem is that my bing leaks badly and i've done about everything that could be done to fix it (yes, i read the wiki on fixing a wiki leak). my moped runs great, it's just that i don't like leaking fuel from my carburetors bowl onto the engine. perhaps i should've clarified what my bing's been doing before exclaiming how terrible it is with no explanation...

i've replaced the bowl, gasket, float, float needle, my air filter, my fuel filter, my fuel line, my petcock, spark plug, ive derusted my tank, ive lined my gas tank, i clean my carb every 3 weeks or so, i tune it every time i start it, i've checked to make sure the float sits level, ive checked for knicks and scratches, i could go on. i've even bought a used bing from a friend and swapped the old parts from that into mine just to see if anything was wrong and it continues to leak. in all, i'm just not having the best experience with bing carburetors and haven't heard many other good experiences from other people either and don't feel like spending the money on another one that'll likely do the same thing or just continue to be a pain. a friend warned me a while ago to check out something different and i'm beginning to see what he meant.

i've heard and read great things about dellorto carbs from friends and on mopedarmy but wanted a second opinion and wasn't sure if size was an issue, which i understand now. especially regarding the intake, due to possible clearance issues since my moped wasn't designed for something other than a bing. so thanks, mop rider. i'll definitely take you up on that if you have an intake that'll clear well. i'll message you. the intake is just a cut stock exhaust header and it works great on this stock maxi. I recently ran into a guy who uses strips of aluminum from cans as shims (probably would be better than duct tape)

Well that's better info on your bing, did you try polishing the seat in the carb body with a pencil eraser?

That will fix most leaks.

To set the float i hould the carb upside down.

And set it so a dime will just clear it on the far side.

And the tang/wings at the bottom of the bowl can snag the float if the B on the bottom side of the bowl is not lined up with air filter or the intake side of the carb housing.

I cant believe you would pay that much for a bing carb to try and fix it.. I would probably just get another bing.. I have had tons of bings and they never really had too many issues.. though bings suck and you could definitely get a tiny bit more power out of a dell.. remember thought you will have rejet and tune the dell to your ped.. there sure is a bunch of info on that process but from what it sounds like you want a painless fix.. is so jst get another 12mm bing..

bings are pretty much the bees knees, if you clean the seat, replace the needle and adjust the float hight its almost impossible for it to leak.

Mine does fine on my stock set up. You should learn how to make it work. They're simple once you figure em out.

wayne is right ! Clean the flout needle seat and make sure your float is adjusted properly like he says . Also make sure the float , floats and isnt covered in crud or leaks . I like useing a brass brush to remove old caramel oating from it but thats just me . Put it in a spray paint can cap of gas to make sure it floats . Shake it and listen to see if it has liquid in it . Most likley you have a dirty seat .

There is only one reason a bing will leak THE FUEL LEVEL IS TO HIGH therefore overflows. There are several reasons for this and the most commonly overlooked reason is dirty seat ( get an inline filter and clean the damn seat ) TEST IT OFF THE PED.... bowl off and upright gently blow through the fuel supply inlet and feel the air going through the valve now lift the float and flow should completely stop.

Are you using pump gas? Ethanol content makes gas lighter.

Remove float from carb and test if it really floats in your premix.

I had a sinker once and it caused a leak

Also a leaker will cause richer/incorrect jetting due to excessive fuel height in the bowl

Bings rock. I have no clue why you would hate one other than the fact that you don't really want to make it work. I BLAST on my 15 bing. 55 mph+ all day. My buddy does 40 on a 12 bing and a unported, unmatched kstar.

you're probably just dumb, you clearly didn't check all the possible leak places because it's not the body because thats solid cast or the slide mechanism soooooooo.... you dumb. I did high 30's with my 12 bing on a lightly ported cylinder and an unmatched exhaust port with a biturbo.

Bing's are easy, I drilled out my 14mm to 15.9mm, jet at 72, 45-50 mph all day long,nice dark plug.70 kstar...no problems

Bings are so easy to work on. Put a new needle and float on it for good measure and it should never leak ever again.

Ive had more sha carbs leak then bings . Bing > Sha
