Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

They are heavy. I will be breaking them down here in a few days for heavier fork springs, new seals, wheel bearings and powdercoat; so I will weigh them while they're off the bike. Rm80 forks have smaller tubes & lowers and are considerably lighter.

The stock kx80 fork springs dive pretty hard on hard braking and hit the head bolts on the lifan 125 so I did some research and found stock springs are .25kg/mm you can get kx80 specific springs up to about .31kg/mm but they are $100+ and will get cut anyway. So I ordered a pair of these 1970's fork springs they look beefy, have the same OD as the stock kx80 springs, and were $25 shipped. hopefully they are much more stiff.

This is what they are going on now:

With the bigger forks and motor the bike is at least 1.5x heavier than a stock tomos

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

Why you lifan? i no longer like this.

makes me grumpy

nice ghetto madass. not.

^^^ lame meme

I rode that orange bullet w/ a honda 70 for a long time and it was fun. 3 speed geared out as tall as it would take and it would push 45mph. Now Ive been riding that lifan 125 and its 60mph easy with so much more torque and an extra gear. Every one talks shit about them and how hondas are so much better, but in reality theyre an improved version of a time tested great design. Its not a "moped" but neither are the bikes that 75% of you fucks ride with kits and pipes so big you have to ditch your pedals.

End rant.

Back to the topic:

Those fork springs I got are ~4x as stiff as stock so I don't think I'll have any problems with the front end diving. I recommend them to anyone putting kx forks on their bike. right now it looks like the seller has 7 sets left here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970s-Ceriani-or-Marzocchi-38mm-pair-fork-springs-measure-31mm-OD-X-470mm-long-/360527861644?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53f122978c&vxp=mtr

And I weighed the forks, they are 18lbs. Thats just the tripples and assembled tubes (NO wheel, axle, brakes or bars).

CR80 forks on a pinto aint no thang. Pretty much direct swap. No machining required - just a spacer. Bearings are exact same size.

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

so you have a 125cc lifan now? I have a jailing 50cc fourstoke powered tomos 4 speeds , all down, hits 50 on flat ground verified by the speed check signs. is your 125 all up or 1 down 3 up? im gonna upgrade this winter to a 125cc lifan

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

They are somewhat heavy compared to stock forks but they are aluminum lowers and an aluminum wheel which is ultra light. My bike simply feels more solid with them.

I have no issue with my stock springs and 15w oil. Then again I don't have a 40 lb engine on my bike. (edited)

I concur

I was into the fork disc brake swap....started getting ill with the 70cc Honda engine swap....

Just don't give a shit why the china turd engine hits the front wheel....

Easy answer is its to damn long for the location ...

ALSO its allot of work for a weird creation when you could just work up a small bore motorcycle for less time and money and go faster and be safer ...but perhaps you have allot of time to kill and are creative....AND Like strange ill handling stuff....whatever the reason....its your bastard child motorcycle...do what you will...post on a scooter site or some other place that speaks China scooter trash

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

So two questions the first is kinda stupid I admit but I want to make absolutely sure

1. Only the spring has to be cut to get these at the right height. No cutting of the actual tube?

2. Has anybody fabbed a mount the allows a stock hobbit headlight to go on. If so please direct me to the solution. I want to keep my stock headlight.

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

Get creative on the headlight. The triples have two threaded mounts in them.

No cutting of the tube, just the spring. The tube is simply more compressed than it would normally be with a shorter spring inside it. Be sure to make a spacer or use the cut piece of spring (i did) to put on the preload side or the tubes will fully extend every time you lift the bike or hop off a curb.

No

The stock Hobbit headlite is so ugly Hitori Honda still hates it...

seriously just got my first hobbit and im working on a proper headlite so i can smash the stock one with a sledge hammer

has to be one of the uglyest worst placed headlites of all time

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

Don't smash it quite yet. Put it in a box and when u realize its extreme

Utility take it out of the box and enjoy a unit that can pack a

Whole lot of wire. And yea when u also tell us / me u plan on a hardwire

Just keep it so after you get your rod in your tibia because some

Idiot rode you down with their pickup

You can rewire your wonderful hobbit for all sorts of lights and have a nice place to stow the stuff.

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

89 kx80 fork swap.......cut 6, added 6.

your correct..i will save it..for someone that needs it....and i will never ride without proper lites and brake lites....it's an 83 and im keeping the stock tail lite and will get some better looking turn signals...as i enjoy night riding and not getting rear ended...lol

OK I'm Waaaaayyyyyyyyy of topic again

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

I just spent a major part of sat with my mechanic who was helping me disassemble the set of. Kx 80 forks that I bought off the forum. They had

Years of water and corrosion at the bottom probably due to power Washing and

No Maintainance. Now finally got them apart and will attempt to clean the internals. I found a rebuild on YouTube and I think my internals match a 91 or so fork so I ordered seals off ebay. Aftermarket ! The rust and corrosion was pretty extensive but we hope we can clean it up seeing that very few parts are easily available. .....sounds mopedish!!! After dealing with this any future reader should be very wary of such an old fork if it isn't totally broken Down and inspected prior to purchase.

About anything is lighter than k10's me thinks.

Re: Tomos motocross fork swap - KX80 fork shcwaperoo

Monster Mopedz /

never had k10s but the kx80 fork tubes I have are a whopping 38mm making them very heavy. I scored some rm80 forks that have smaller diameter tubes and they feel maybe 25-30% lighter... I cant imagine those k10 forks to be that heavy ( I posted the total weight somewhere in this thread)

GET REALIZED! BE HERE NOW! /

k10 is heavy, like they are all cast
