Puch, Kstar, Circuit, Bing jet/atomizer "issues"?

Ok....a little stumped here. I have a 77' Newport with a 70cc Kstar, 15mm Bing, Bing mesh filter, Bing 15mm intake. since getting the Techno Circuit pipe I seem to be stuck with either great low-mid range, or great top speed. It wants to run rich low/lean high, or to make it run right at the upper RPM range, I have to have it just about flooding up to wide open throttle.

I've tried an 80 jet with the needle at the lowest/leanest setting and it pulls hard up until about 35mph. If I switch to the 82 jet (also needing the leanest needle setting) it will go 50 mph.

Any ideas how to make it run "right" all the way through the rev band would be greatly appreciated. I also have a 12mm Bing carb that I can use to cannibalize parts... I was wondering if the atomizer from the 12mm would solve my issue with the larger 82 jet?

Try #78 jet full rich needle clip. You need full rich needle for good low-mid power. I'm running the pretty much the same set up as you and the #78 jet full rich needle worked for me

i've got the about the same setup, except a foam filter and 78 jet. it has nice reliable idle all the way up to 35+ mph.. have you case matched? i have not

I have case-matched and port-matched. I seem to be able to have either great low/mid range, or great top end. With the 82 jet and 16-40 gearing, it does 50 on the flats but is way too rich down low and slow to accelerate up to about 25-30mph.

Hi Matt,

I'm using the one (needle, atomizer, slide) that came stock with the 15mm Bing from Treats. I'm not sure the needle/atomizer size but the stock jet is an 82.

It's interesting but....I'm a little worried about being too lean at the top end. I'm having that problem already with the 80 jet and (from what I understand) the needle only effects the bottom 1/2 - 3/4 of the rev range. I'm not saying it won't work as 2-strokes are "strange animals" sometimes.

I did take your advise about matching the header with the exhaust port and it seems to have made a difference in (especially) throttle response.

I'll order a 78 jet next week and see how it goes.
