top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

I have a 1987 Honda hobbit(pa50II) I have installed proma exhaust, bosien reeds, and a treats tooth non stock belt. Im 185lbs and my top speed on flat land is 32mph I was looking in the tuning spread sheet and they seem to be in the high 30's to 40's. Im running a stock jet. Is it my weight or are the sheets off?

Re: top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

I'd say a bit of both. Both your weight and people just saying they are going 40 because the shitty old stock speedo is reading off by 5+ miles.

Re: top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

Why did you mess with the belt? You should definitely be around 37 with the pipe (GPSed).

Re: top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

the belt that was on it was slepping and worn i think it was the original belt so i figured that i should get a new one and I also figured that the middle performance belt was the way to go. I have done a sudo plug chop(full speed kill engine cost to stop) and looked at it and match it up to the pictures and it came up right in the middle of the range

On the stand, how high does the belt run on the variator at full variation? ...........and which belt exactly? not the AX-40!!!!!

Don't do variator mods on a stock cylinder that's exactly the wrong thing to recommend to someone in his situation

^^^WAT, a stock cylinder is perfect for a vario mod (notched). It's the kitted Hobbits with notched varios, that break cranks. Get a Camino vario then. 32 is all you're gonna get without regearing (hence the vario mod).

Re: top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

You are basically wrong. You can hit high 30s easily without notching the variator on a stock cylinder. If he is only reaching 32mph something is clearly wrong elsewhere. Notched variators on stock cylinders are a great way to fall out of the powerband of a proma pipe.

I modified my variator right of the bat, then pipe... ripped it up

Re: top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

I did buy the AX-40 which i guessing was a mistake which kind of belt would you go with to get my last 4mph?

Re: top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

Try pulling the belt deeper into the rear pulley while at rest. It's a narrower belt so it might not be getting into the highest "gearing".

Re: top speed seems off for what i have done Hobbit

the ax40 is a crappy belt. too narrow and too long. You are loosing some of your variation because the belt rides on the center of the front pulley and there is a gap between it and the front variator cheeks at rest. It takes a little of your variation away just to engage the belt.
