Those of you running the KTM clutch, what oil are you using? I am using 0w20 which is what my Puch clutch seems to like best, but it feels like the KTM clutch is slipping too much. Was thinking maybe 20w something.

nd20?
80W
OR Motul Synthetic 30W works great too
Ok cool. I'll try the motul. 80w sounds waaaay thick, no?
It seems to me that thicker oil = more slip
You're wrong Coop. Thinner oil = more slip.
hahah....try using the regular stuff, its what i did and it was great. i dont think it likes anything thinner, TS was too much slip if you remember. i also tried the motul for a bit and that was ok, but engaged a bit earlier than i wanted it to.
"The regular stuff" meaning ATF? ih8u.
yessssssssssssssssssssss
you should run the fluid that KTM recommends for there clutch. i have talked with there tech department, and the guy doesnt understand why you would use anything else. he said the fluid they have for the KTM clutch is made for the high high heat the clutch generates. although im sure there is other fluid that will work, or very similar to the one he is talking about. i just ordered it when i ordered my new springs. plus he said all the testing they do on the clutches is with this fluid.
maxmojo, why does it slip more when it's cold? Oil is thicker before it heats up, and I'm too lean to be making more power than when the engine is warm. Is there something else I'm missing?
ive always just used type f... im sure there is something else that works better but thats all ive ever tried....
I've seen many ktm 50 people recommend maxima 75w and the two 2 cool additive.
^
2 cool additive is the essential part of the mix.
I recently switched to the Motul 30W and 2 cool type additive, works wonders with the KTM folk in Seattle
@Coop. Just try 0w20 for yourself and tell me if it slips more or not, k?
2 cool eh?
@ Bowie, what oil r you talking about that they recc?
Just bought some "2 cool." Good suggestion! Thanks guys.
I just bought some 15w50. Haven't tried it yet. Probably will end up getting some motul oil from treats.
Can anybody rec. a good synthetic that's 20w or thicker??
Also, I wrote up a little summary of some of the issues I had on my blog... http://www.maxsmopeds.blogspot.com
take a sec if can, and tell me if you can suggest any better solutions to the problems I'm dealing with... mostly heating up at this point.
Just go to the Supermarket and get some peanut oil it's what the old aromatic trans oil used to be,
Because it can take Handel the heat at 500f without boiling or braking down.
Hell my dad used it in his old powerglide dragster with red die in it,
and 2% of our snake oil for a better clutch grab.
Yes i have the stuff to make the snake oil.
Do u sell snake oil?
Yes you want some.
Lol. U can't even spell right and you're trying to trick me? You're bad atthe Internet dude.
Ok so what's that got to do with my knowing what works,
try the peanut-oil if you like it.
I will send you some snake oil.to try.
I'm good. Thanks. Anybody out there with actual experience with the KTM clutch, feel free to chime in... Others, not so much...
>> ghmm don't you like read on the website where they say.. or sell the oil. Its maxmai or someshit.
Run nd oils only.. but whatever.
Btw, wayne I will take some snake oil since these kids just like asking dumb questions what next .. hey man what is your stack on the clutch, Oh, Thats right I told everyone that the spring is better of course of it is. beerturddays:cheers.
