Re: Lowering Cylinder Temp

oh gosh..

Thanks a lot for that info im pretty sure im not gonna do anything about the squish in the head. im not familiar with altering that. and yes i am running a hi hi comp head.

I upjetted to 96 and running richer. Currently running about an ounce of oil for premix and using the pump. once im out of the pump im ditching it and premixing all the way. 32:1

havent messed too much with timing on the tomos but did some work on a puch so i get what your saying. thanks for the numbers!

my trail tech wire ripped for my temp gauge so im waiting on a new wire. ($25 for it!!!!) crazy rip off.

gonna check out Ringland porting or gasporting, and maybe consider it.

Also picked up a thicker base gasket. hopefully it will help out a bit more.

thanks ill report back when with results when i can.

Re: Lowering Cylinder Temp

might i add this is a tomos and ive never touched timing on it yet. anyone have before? i know they dont use points.

not touching the timinig after installing a kit is a bad idea. wiki cdi timing. and some tomos use points.....

Re: Lowering Cylinder Temp

thanks going to look into that as well. I figure retard the timing a little

right?

Retarding the timing helped my temp the most. Not sure of degrees, but when I originally set my HPI, instructions said 2-4mm BTDC, so I went with 2mm. After several miles and some high temps, I ended up seizing. When I re-set it up, I read wiki more and went with to 1.4mm... damn near instant cure. running a lot cooler and actually seems smoother, too... idles better. May drop it to 1.3 or 1.2 next time to give that a try.

I checked my timing with a degree wheel and a timing light. Was sitting at 18 degrees...

So I went to town on the head, ended up cutting it way down past the raised lip (was a type 2 hi comp head) reshaping the combustion chamber but still raising the compression even higher. Runs fantastic now, haven't been even able to get it over 400f. If I drill it relentlessly it will hit 390 but no more does it spike over 400f at half throttle. I guess I'll have to see how it behaves when it's over a 100f here in the summer.

Re: Lowering Cylinder Temp

alright so your saying retard the timing. My question is im running the stock CDI and i havent touched the timing on a No point system. I dont plan on investing another 200 or more into a HPI system. are their ways?

Levi. with the now smaller chamber how did you get it to stay so flat? or do you have a gasket in their?

setting timing...look@the wiki. you no longer have a stock top end. so your timing is nolonger relevant to your current setup.... timing has everything to do with your setup. and not as much to do with your ignition system. stock cdi or not, it needs to be adjusted.

Re: Lowering Cylinder Temp

Thanks i just read it and will do some work. Ill prolly report back if anything goes wrong.

thanks

Surfaced it on a piece of glass. It's slow going but if your patient it will come out just fine.

Re: Lowering Cylinder Temp

thanks again. ill do what i can before cutting up the head and if anything do what you did. thanks. for the help

Re: Lowering Cylinder Temp

"_once im out of the pump im ditching it and premixing all the way. 32:1_"

Excessive use of oil. 50:1 with a good quality oil is more than enough lube for your tube.
