Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

My potential setup:

- puch moped race crankshaft unstuffed

- puch 70cc 45mm reed valve kit especiale

- malossi PHBG 4 petal reed block intake

Does the reed block + intake increase crankcase volume by much? Will an unstuffed crank be ok with this setup?

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

the downfall of the unstuffed crank is no oil lube hole drilled

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

usar el super stuffy

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

what about the horror stories of the stuffing falling out

disaster....

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

it will melt if you run ur motor hot hot hot........

moral of the story run cool or remove stuffing.

i have been running the dmp stuff crank on my gila for a few years no problem.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

the oil hole is in the small end, right?

get the stuffy when increasing case volume by case matching and if i remember correctly there is a certain ratio of inside the crankcase and the cylinder. its like 1:1.5. either way more stuff = higher compression in the case. i think

don't run it super hot

my friends teflon stuffed crank melted from riding in seize temp zone but it saved his kit from seizing

(it's just a @#$%* to get all that melted gunk off....)

it's now an unstuffed crank, two in one deal!!

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

Can someone help a layman out? Oil hole is where and used for what/benefit? How do you remove the stuffing stuff from the crank?

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

run this one then you get all you need stuffing oil hole and it wont melt

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

oil hole is on the tip of the conrod where the wrist pin slides into the needle bearings

to remove the teflon stuffing you just have to pick at it with a razor blade, not fun to remove

I run the super stuffy no problems at all

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

Running the unstuffed with that kit will be no problem. You will experience just a little loss in the very low end. Do'nt worry about. And that kit will not rev any where near it would be necessary to drill a oil hole. You can put that together and ride off into the sunset in bliss

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

you'll be fine. i've been doing it for a while.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

thanks y'all

i may ask a machine shop to make an oil hole just to be safe

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

I have a rito with my reed kit. Plenty of 9000 rpm miles just fine. I really wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

there is a good 2-3 mm gap on either side of the con rod, clearance to the walls of the piston wrist pin bore.

adding another oil hole is redundant.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

so does that mean they just put the oil lube hole just for looks?

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

The Rito is a great crank and it doesn't have the oil hole. If the oil hole sells more cranks, the company wins.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

wait a minute, so is this crank made by Rito? I don't see any kind of brand listed.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

I believe that crank is made by k-star, someone correct me if I'm wrong. The Rito has been out of stock for a bit.

I'm going to go through http://www.mopedcrankworks.com/ for my next build, they will redo your stock crank with a rito con rod and new needle bearings for a much better price than a new crank. The best part is no sanding down clutch shims to get it to work. Dress it up with bearings and seals, throw that shit together and forget about it.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

yea i think i am going that route too......

shims can be a bitch!

Oooo nice link. thanks!

know anybody thats had work done

by this dude?

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

I just ordered a crank from him one of the e50 ones so I'll let you guys know when it shows up.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

Please do. Maybe I'll do that for my next build.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

I have that DMP unstuffed ^ I built my bike for mad low end, and I really like it, but I only have 100 or so miles on it so I can't speak as to it's longevity. Bearings went on nicely, and the woodruff key slots are little wonky looking but fit the stock woodruff keys nice.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

The tef stuffed cranks now have threaded-in teflon stuffing, and aren't really a problem. What really seems to have happened was a bad batch gave them a bad name. You really shouldnt be able to melt them without some other simultaneous and more serious problem.

stuffing shouldn't be too much trouble. If you cut in deep transfers it will knock down the case volume most significantly. but even then and even with the reeds you should be fine. having reeds kinda negates the intake from inclusion in crankcase volume.

Re: Unstuffed crank + treats reed kit?

i got the e50 crank mentioned. it looks really good, smells minty. like legit like mint. but regardless its a nice crank and came just as promised. chris is a good guy and shipped quickly. I'll let you guys know more about this crank when i get to put it to the real test, aka real life high rpm situations.
