Fitting a Proma Circuit on a Honda PA50

Hey,

It's my first time experimenting with performance tuning and I just picked up a 70cc Polini kit and a Proma Circuit pipe for my 1982 Honda PA50II. I took the stock exhaust off no problem but the welded on brackets on the Proma Circuit don't line up with the frame's by atleast an inch or so. I read and re-read almost everything on the subject in the wiki (and forums) but couldn't really find much. Has anyone had a similar problem with this installation and does anyone have any tips for me?

Also, as a bonus, does anyone have a suggestion for what size I should upjet to after all is said and done. I'll make sure to do some plug chops and what not to be sure of course.

New to the moped world...

THANKS

Never had a problem with fitting my prome pipe... That's weird, there must be a manufacturing defect on your pipe...

I left the 78 jet on there when I put my proma pipe on, and my plug chops are perfect, check before you change the jet.

Re: Fitting a Proma Circuit on a Honda PA50

The proma I just got mounted absolutely perfectly to the two mounts on the subframe...

Also, you don't need to upjet with that pipe. If anything you might need to downjet from stock, still. I 4-stroke at low-throttle and when I'm going down a hill at high speeds. Just leave it alone and change your jet to a 90 when you kit it.

Re: Fitting a Proma Circuit on a Honda PA50

yeah i had the same problem. i just kind of shoved it up in there. you can kind of bend them out a little so you can get a bolt in. Not ideal, but it's definitely on that bike now and it's very secure. It's that baffle I need to weld on that makes me nervous.

Is JB Weld or high-temp epoxy an option?

Re: Fitting a Proma Circuit on a Honda PA50

You don't need to weld on the baffle. Rubber mallet the baffle on a bit, clamp the hose clamp down, you should be good. Mine fell off the first time I ran it because I just hose clamped it, then I hammered it on and it's been good.

Also, I kitted it and threw a PGBG on there. With the Proma I'm running a 90 but I'm fouling plugs left and right.

Can't figure out how that is happening..

Excellent, excellent...

Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look at using a rubber mallet with the baffle. The brackets on mine are off a significant amount though, I'm not sure that I can bend them and just shove it up in. I'll take a look and maybe talk to treats and see if I can get it swapped for a new one.

Re: Fitting a Proma Circuit on a Honda PA50

yeah, i'm thinking you have a defective one. both me and a friend bought them, and they mounted up perfectly (he owns both bikes now, or i'd measure it for you).

i'm at 2000', and i upjetted one. could have gotten away with not. my plug chop was borderline (a 79 would have been PERFECT, hahaha!), but it gets well up into the 100's here, and i opted to offer up 1-2 MPH to feel safer.

Re: Fitting a Proma Circuit on a Honda PA50

i jb welded mine, i got tired of it falling off, and the jb weld only last about a year...

Got it on after some pretty serious bending of the brackets - looking good though. Got the baffle on there pretty tight too, we'll see if it holds.

Thanks!
