i recently was asked about vario tuning for peugeots. it is a pain in the ass but can be done. and can be done well with a little effort so here ya go

you will need

bench vice

phillips screw driver

cressent wrench

drill

dremel

and a marker

1. remove your variator from the bike. if you dont know how this is done stop now and learn how your bike comes apart

2. disasemble the clutch put vario in the vice, remove nut which hold the vario togather disasemble the vario

3. now using the phillips driver remove the weights

4.mark out how much meterial you want to remove start with small amounts then get crazy

5. i also drill holes in the lead weights

6. use a scale and make sure the 2 weights weigh the same

7.you can see them side by side to see how much i remove

just so you know this vario will NOT start to shift till about 25-35mph so make sure you can spin the rpm to shift it

also my spelling is horrible sorry for all of the typos

13x45 gearing 25 is like 4k rpm that pipe dont hit till like 6 or 7k its perfecto not late at all

Get a launch lever.

Its less work and remove 2 or 3 balls from the clutch, BAM dun.

i have a launch lever and a molossi multivar vario. somtimes its just fun to modify things. not everyone wants to just buy stuff allot of the people in this community are in it for the fun of Tuning and tinkering

side note. remove 4 balls and add a second 4 prong spring revs to the moon and grabs like hell.

other cheap mode is to buy some variotop weights, they bolt right in at the same 2 mounting holes that are on the stock arms.

Where can you get those cruicibles or 4 prong springs or what haves you?

Also 4 balls? You just keep 2 across from eachother to keep it balanced?

yeah 2 directly across from each other and i just had a bunch of those springs from old 102's and other clutches laying around makes a huge difference

naz iv never even thouught of that. do they swing far enugh?

that seems way easyer to tune.

yeah... they(variotop weights) work perfecto on the stock variator and you end up large array of tuning options. Oh, that gianelli pipe hits at some crazy high rpms on 50cc kit, even with lightened clutch pulley arms/ er3 variator/ 11x59 gearing on my bike still takes a bit of time to roll up on the powerband of the pipe.

Even tho' I have diagrams of the 103 variator clutch...

Does anyone have any pics of the assy- with 4 balls setup especially the last 4 prong spring piece.

I have the variotop malossi for it, how to I assy it and set the weights.

I bought a fully assy. variotop for my moby.

Never assembled one.

Grant Ya that was me on the ceramic balls.

Thy are pricey and, and i will get some made for moby's to.

I can get them made in to defendant kinds of ceramic to,

I was going to get the lighter ones made fist.

can some one give me the size of the Pug and Moby ball's thanks.

And who all want's play with my hard ceramic BALL's.

Wayne I think the ceramic is a good idea. I like the idea of being able to run a balanced clutch with light balls over running 2 at opposite ends.. ill measure up a 103 ball in a few min

so rad. i was literally just going to ask how to do this when i did one more refined search and found this tutorial. the variotop weights idea sounds like the jam as well. why would people even buy a variotop at all if they can just mod the stock one?

So the stock in my pug was .. 50grams..

I am down to 32 gram.. 16grams each side..

Anyone else .. What gram did you end up at?

I have one hell of dead zone.. right around 25-35.. then after that.. its stupid fast.

Stoks vario balls are 11.90mm - 11.91mm

Not sure on the weight since my digi scales are dead due to a lack of use in the past 5 yrs.

i bought ceramic balls.. but they are like .25mm to big. so i am going to grind out the plate on 3 of the holes to make them fit.

McMaster Carr has delrin (plastic) balls. One fourth the weight of steel.

I added another 4 prong spring yesterday and it makes a crazy difference. It will rev high as fuck and the grab hard. It made a 1 second delay before it grabs and then it grabs hard.

Not sure if I like it yet so I took it back out. Going to play with this mod more next week.
