You're saying that you have THOROUGHLY sprayed it down with carb cleaner, and you get no or very little change in idle? Also, I know you said it was a temp fix, but I think tape on the intake might be a bad idea. Gas eats through adhesive like a starving man eats Thanksgiving dinner.
I feel like this sounds too skeptical and assholeish, and I apologize. But really, if it's doing everything you say it's doing, that kind of boggles my mind.
