If you were futzing around with the jets, you might have knocked the float out of alignment. I can't say how Amals are, but I accidentally knocked the float out of alignment on a stock Puch Bing just from changing the Main jet. It's just a possibility that would explain why there is gas in the bowl, but none making bang bang. Try to jet it super-duper fat, or keep it on choke to see if you can at least start it.

And yes, I'm totally out of snow range! LOL!
