sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting issue

hey guys, got a sachs balboa 505 stock motor, the only upgrades are a freeflow air filter and a puch jammy pipe cut up and welded onto the bike.

i have a square bing with a 62 jet in it. it ran fine with a 58 jet in it but had WOT problems. this is all beind done testing on the kickstand no riding (it is raining).

someone on my build thread suggested to go up to a 62 or 64. i tried the 62 (the biggest i have) and it ran but didnt seem any better. after that it will not start. i think i fouled the plug.

give me guidance please oh' 2 stroke gurus.

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

okay so i realized the spark plug wire came off. when tuning the carb though i can turn the air ratio screw all the way in and it still runs. to me this says air leak. ... yes?

what carb. what motor? i had a d w/12mm type 85 bing 60 jet hi flow filter and a homemade pipe(jamercol chamber and sachs header) it ran proper. 62jet bogged, 58 jet too lean. also i find riding w/weight on the bike is the only good test. wait til its dryer out to get a good reading.

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

thanks man, it is a 12mm 505 engine. i am not sure which letter 505.

the letter is important.

all the way in on the idle screw is very high idle. it will run but should rev higher. air leak=no change when its in or out or no starting at all. spray carb/brake cleaner around your seals (manifold, base gasket, decomp...)while yr shit is running and if it revvs out its cuz its sucking in the cleaner which is much more combustible.

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

ahhh maybe that is it, i did replace my decomp valve with a bolt. how can i seal that?

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

seems like there may be a touch of a leak around the decomp bolt. should i just use thread sealant or what....

get the matching thread bolt at auto or hardware store, cut about 1" from it, cut a ridge to the end where it was cut for flat screwdriver, then clean decomp valve access hole with degreasing fluid like brake cleaner spray or acetone, then dip about 1/2" of the bolt into JB wel, screw in with screwdriver tightly and let set for overnight- that will work, did for me

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

cool i was thinking red locktite. it is airtight also... i got it handled i believe. thanks guys! i cant wait to do all this to go 25 mph....

I think JB weld is better for handling the heat...

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

i used indian head shelac gasket. it is made for gasket material and for engines. i use it in old flathead motors so it should be good.

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

you should throw a round bing on there it will make your life easier in the jetting department

you can get square jets from handybikes. not cheap tho. and id go with the jb weld too. or that liquid steel that benji has for sale.

Re: sachs 505 with pipe and air filter jetting iss

well rode it today, it is in the 50s. it pulls off fine but it bogs past maybe 15 mph. i will tune it when it warms up here....
