no. it doesn't make a difference. The port is open when gases can freely flow through it. At the pressure these engines run at, the oxygen is a really thick substance. The majority of the gases don't even start moving towards the port until the top of the crown clears the port.

You will lose a little gas past the piston, but not enough to effect the timing noticeably.
