moped running out of fuel really fast?

Hi my puch moped is having some issues. It starts on first kick (even when it's cold) and goes the full 28-30mph. The only problem is, it dies out really fast. When I put a little bit of fuel in it, it fires up, and can ride for about 10 miles. I know a moped can get like 80 mpg so I don't know what the beef is. Do you know what's going on? Thanks!

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

maybe you should put more gas in so it wont run out so quickly? it might also be leaking gas

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

Clean your petcock, carb, gas tank

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

Are you putting more than a pint of a gas in at a time?

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

yeah I put about half a gallon. why?

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

Fish tits Krauthamer /

do you know about the reserve position of the petcock?

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

full tank should go about 40 mi at least.

could be jetted wrong, could be your timing if fucked, so youre using full throttle all the time to make up for it...

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

well, how do you know if your tank is full. No matter how much gas I put into it, it doesn't really seem full. What happens if I put more than 1 gallon? it's not like the tank will overfill right? I'm new to mopeds so thanks for the help.

Re: moped running out of fuel really fast?

The tank holds as much as it holds. You can put in 5 gallons if you want, but don't be surprised if 4 of those gallons end up on the ground.

You know it's full when you can see the gas at the top of the tank when you're filling it. If you can't see the gas, you haven't filled it enough. If the gas starts pouring out the hole where you're filling it, then you'll know that you've overfilled it.

Make sure you aren't leaking any fuel. Nothing should be wet anywhere.
