angled port to flat port conversion?

Brandon Bakke /

Just a random thought, but it just occurred to me. Mind you, this is all theoretical, but it makes sense in my head.

Could a puch cylinder with an angled port, like the hero puch top end or a 50 or 80 metrakit, be adapted to a flat port simply by milling a wedge shaped piece to level off the angled surface? Anyone tried or thought of this?

Might be stupid, humor me.

Re: angled port to flat port conversion?

it's simple enough to adjust the pipe's header to match the kit, or just buy a pipe that does.

Re: angled port to flat port conversion?

yes, I've made a wedge when I had a stock magnum cylinder. The problems you run into is having your bolt want to go straight 90 degrees up and the threaded holes being at an angle. Theres really no way around it and I got a kit. Your option is really only to bend the header. Thanks, Joe

Re: angled port to flat port conversion?

bend the header, run it at a crazy angle if not. other options are to mill the cylinder to make the flange flat then re tap the holes. someone has done it before, i remember seeing a photo.

Re: angled port to flat port conversion?

I have not tried it on the Puch or Metrakit, but I did do this to an A35 cylinder.

Re: angled port to flat port conversion?

ive seen some goofy bandit tech where there was a double exhaust flange adapter. wasnt on a puch but same idea. not worth it for angled/flat port conversion. just bend/cut/weld or buy what you need.

Re: angled port to flat port conversion?

The wedge would need 2 holes for the exahust studs. Joe made a good point about the bolts not going in because of the angle of the wedge. It would be pretty easy to drill those to be flat. I dont think this is a very bad idea but I do forsee problems with getting a tight exhaust seal.
