new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poorly?

i recently added a 15mm carb and intake manifold along wiht a biturbo exhaust to my 1.5 hp e50 Pinto. with the new parts my speed neglegably increased from 22 mph to 25 but the bike has no power at low rpms and takes very long to get up to full speed. i was wondering if thier is something to look out for or that can be altered to either get more power out of the setup or at least restore its power at lower rpms. thanks for the help

Re: new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poor

Did you change the jetting at all? The 82 jet that comes in the 15mm bing may be a little too large for your setup. The biturbo is a top end pipe (i.e. greater top speed, less torque). Keep tuning and you'll get it to pop.

Re: new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poor

ive ordered some new jets ranign from 80-90s id only really heard preaching of upjetting so i didnt think that the jet might be to big, ill try tinkering with the jets and see what i can get, does this speed seem slow for a 1.5hp with this setup?

Re: new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poor

Is it the stock cylinder and head? What's your compression measuring at? Have you done a plug chop since you added the carb and the pipe. Those jets are WAY too big for a stock 50cc front end. Think more like mid 70's, but I'd check your current first before I did anything else. I have a stock 2hp maxi with a bing 14mm and a 68 jet jet that does 32 all day.

tuning is sometimes more involved than slapping parts onto an engine......

ian has teh good advice : i think you should be jetted high 60's low 70's for that setup.

while you're waiting for your jets, you should adjust your needle to the leanest setting, meaning 1st from the top. when you get the new jets, return the needle to stock and tune from there

Re: new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poor

did you put new gaskets in when you replaced the pipe and intake? are you still running the stock air filter? dont. does the bike idle if you let off the throttle completely?

you definitely need to rejet but even with a pipe and a 15mm carb you should be going faster than you are. jetting is crucial though.

Re: new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poor

there is no setup so good mechanically that a novice tuner can't mess it up. :) that being said at least you didn't hurt any thing but mpg when you started tuning unlike me who killed a cylinder.

Re: new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poor

I understand there is alot to tuning it regarding the jets i just made the mistake of ordering experimental jets on the larger side of the stock ones. hopefully the smaller jets will arive3 int he mail soon .i ran a plug chop and it came out fuel rich, i havent been able to test the compression because the shops closed on the weekend but i am still running a stock cylinder and head.

thanks for all the help guys

Re: new 15mm carb and biturbo exhaust running poor

Go to Sears and buy yourself a compression meter ($35), great tool to have in the box.
