IS the treats cdi kit a better kit for a za?

so ive got the stator and flywheel and the whole e50 kit, but wonder if maybe id skip all the busted cdi box drama by gettting the high rpm version cdi and using it on a za with a polini?

Does that sound like a reasonable idea?

why not just get another one? Which box do you have? Chances are there will be more issues with the polini on the za than ignition issues.

Re: IS the treats cdi kit a better kit for a za?

word... power through a ZA = trouble and $$$

Re: IS the treats cdi kit a better kit for a za?

im gonna do the za right, lets just assume that the power to the za will not be an issue.

is the ZA cdi ( the type 2 ) a better fit then the e50?

i don't think the za boxes are any better.

a good za can be done, it just takes a little patience and requires really nice internals. Make sure you have a stack of spare clutches.

Re: IS the treats cdi kit a better kit for a za?

I put a 65cc Metra, 15mm Bing, techno circuit pipe, geared 18/40 and the treats cdi on my ZA and the thing is KICK ASS! The idea is to keep the RPM's as low as possible on these things so you don't kill the right away. I had originally installed the CDI with a 50cc K-Star kit(piece of shit) and had to do a lot of grinding on the stator to get it to time right with a light, but it was easy peasy after putting the metra kit on. I am currently running the version 1 cdi box from treats but I also have the version 2 I just haven't put it on yet because I don't know what the differences are and it is already running like a top. Basically you should have no issues ordering the ZA CDI and bolting it right up. Just make sure you use a timing light. you might have to do a little dremeling but it will be less work than ordering the one for the e50, then you'd have to move the pick-up.

thanks scott

Re: IS the treats cdi kit a better kit for a za?

as far as i know, torque is a bigger problem with za50's than rpms. could be wrong but all the teeth shearing and shift-dampener drama seems to come from too much power, not too many rpms.
