peugeot MVT

has anyone used this ignition its the one with the flywheel not the internal rotor

just looking for some pointers. it has 2 keyd spots on the flywheel dont know if these will line up with the molossi crank help please

Re: peugeot MVT

you don't need the key.. it should have little red mark on the stator and on the flywheel. Use a timing tool to set the timing 1.5mm btdc on most Peugeot's and simply line up the red marks and it will be timed right. Treats and 1977 seem to sell a couple of timing tools. You can also use some digital calipers if you take your time.

Re: peugeot MVT

There for a timing light... .

Mark them with a white grease/paint marker... then time it..

Re: peugeot MVT

cool so just set the timing the way i did with the points only using the red spots as the firing mark.

also i had my points set a 2mm btc should i set the cdi at 1.5 cause its auto advancing?

Re: peugeot MVT

yeah I probably would.... you might want to check it after the fact with a timing light and see what timing the cdi is running for you.

yea i would leave it a little less advanced then put it on the stand and rev it up real high with the timing light on it. if you see you're mark on the flywheel moving from the mark on the stator you know its advancing.

Re: peugeot MVT

just an update these dont fit on the 2 coil stater

Re: peugeot MVT

what doesn't?

Re: peugeot MVT

the MVT allumage MILLENIUM CDI ignition

it does not fit on the 2 coil stater plate but does fit the 5 coil one so just make sure you have the right plate before getting this ignition

also the taper is not correct for the molossi crank but with some thin copper sheet as a shim it works great

Re: peugeot MVT

i thought they come with a whole new plate?

Re: peugeot MVT

mine didn't either.. just used the 5 coil one I had sitting around.

Shimming a taper is dangerous ...works good till 11-12 thou and then crank and high dollar ignition rotor is destroyed...(possibly more) i.e.stator or high dollar crank...yea-verify with strobe ALWAYS !!!...My laguna spit the mag off awhile back and ruined my day...took a bit of inspection to find out why...I will share fix as soon as Im sure its fixed...65 mph semi tuck on mid range gear the other night...11,000+ rpm...if mag stays put past 12,000 then I'll know its "fixed"...I have a puegoet endurance crank that has the "puch" taper...maybe a clue ...sorry to derbi your peugoet thread...shaw

Re: peugeot MVT

yeah thats helpful i would hate to buy a new crank and end up with the wrong taper again

Re: peugeot MVT

yeah my MVT ignition slipped right on the taper and had no issues getting a secure fit. I would suspect that maybe MVT messed up the taper on the thing, that is just a guess. I'm just using a malossi ignition at this point and sold the MVT to a friend, I needed more of a lighting circuit then the MVT provided. I need to run a water pump, lights etc off the stator.

Re: peugeot MVT

yeah gnna need to put the timing light on it the marks on the ignition are off

You know, it would probably have been a little better for treats to tell you it doesnt have a back plate? like it says it does?

Re: peugeot MVT

how do you actually use a timing light? is that somewhere? if it's revving and on how do i know where the piston is?

I tried using this with the stock crank, switched to a 5 coil old stator-didnt work- than a cdi stator from a vogue(they are almost the same) still no good. The taper was too wide so when i tightened the magneeto it contacted the stator. so i cut a hole out of my stator and now it works fine. but i have to time it. been problematic, was told to set the red line to TDC even, but i am going to try 1.5btdc tomorrow afterwork(going to work now)

Re: peugeot MVT

basically i had to port the stator for this to work.

Re: peugeot MVT

not that i have a reason to yet since i havent even got it to move (idle yes! timing off!)

but can you use different boxes on these and what are the possible pros/cons of different boxes? can i get a more programmable box now that i Have the coils/magneeto setup??

Re: peugeot MVT

yes... honda 2 stroke boxes
