puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

(Casserollers) Gregory B. /

i have a puch polini kit with a 15mm bing.

the thing blasted for quite some time and am still in the middle of breaking it in. probably 200 miles on it.

i took the kit off, put it on an engine with a aftermarket crank and case matched it.

when i kick over my moped, it doesn't want to start. you can hear the engine pop like it's about to start up but wont ever completely run. it just pops every 10 seconds of pedaling and i'm not sure what the problem is.

it isn't a fuel delivery issue. banjo is clean and it's getting fuel and spark.

what could be my problem? timing? condenser? something? what am i doing wrong?

thanks,

greg

was your old bottom end case matched? if it was not up jet it. what jets in it now?

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

timing. methinks.

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

we tried every timing, and up jetted to 90. before it was 88.

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

you jetting sounds right, id say a air leak

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

have to be careful with those case matches. Some guys will go too aggressive and will allow only a very small surface for the case halves to meet, right between the crankcase and a hole for one of the bolts. (I'm talking e50 here).

If you address the air leaks at the head/cylinder/intake and still can't get it to start You may have to open up the case.

On mine I replaced some material that was lost in the case match with JB weld and then filed that down so it was flush with the rest of the case half. Total PITA. Hopefully thats not what happened to you but I'm just throwing out personal experiences here.

that usually doesint cause leeks. ive seen motors run fine and u can see the bolt threw the transfer.

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

Salsa Salsa /

yeah, this was not that aggressive of a case match.

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

choke

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

i bet your timing is 180 degrees off

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

Salsa Salsa /

timing is good, and so s choke

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

What kind of spark plug? Same one you were using before? I had a problem with my maxi not staying started could be fouled or maybe too hot?

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

Lol. Jack, wouldn't 180 degrees mean his bike is running backwards? I think he'd have noticed that.

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

spark plug is good, i tried a 6 7 and 8 and i ran them all till they were oiled.

Re: puch polini - sort of starting, sort of not...

first, your kit is completely broken in. it was mostly broken in after the first 20 miles.

it does sound electrical. bad points? bad condenser? try switching the entire stator plate over from your old bottom end. where is your stator plate set, and how big is your point gap?

this video is helpful...
