puch gila questions

do these kits require adding material to the case? or can you just bore and port and be done?

Re: puch gila questions

The 80?

You can get away with not adding any if you skimp on your port matching like I did (Metra 80 for me) but it's not a good idea; I like bad ideas.

Re: puch gila questions

yeah the 80 (74?). so basically, don't go crazy with porting.

how is everyone else modding their cases?

Re: puch gila questions

Jb weld

Re: puch gila questions

"Jb weld" Ditto.

What I did was port it to match 95%, so on the top of the right port, there is about a millimeter of aluminum separating the world from my cylinder. I then reinforced it with some JB weld, so the JB isn't actually _doing_ anything, other than providing strength.

IMO, it's fine. The transfer ports on these kits are so huge that it really won't make a difference in performance to have a little nub of metal sticking out into one of the transfers.

Re: puch gila questions

yeah jb weld works, as long as it's only used to create a seal for your base gasket. here's a picture of peter's hobbit. he did the same thing.

if you want to do it right i'm sure you could get nate or nichols to weld some aluminum to your cases for some beer/bourbon.

Re: puch gila questions

Re: puch gila questions

Re: puch gila questions

Those intakes work well; I recommend getting/making a spacer so you can run it out to the left. Using it to the right gets in the way of the pedal and without a spacer if you want run it to the left it hits the head/fins (you could cut the fins but I prefer a spacer). MikeT (tom cruiser) makes some nice 1/2" spacers; I'm running 2 1/4" ones (one on each side of the reed block).

thanks again derek. ill hit up mike about the spacer.

Seth, I used that intake on my Gila recently. I also used the riser block that Mike T. was selling so that I didn't have to cut the fins. It points the carb at 8 o'clock (the spark plug is 12). I have pics. gimme a sec.

One of those should work. That's totally not 8 o'clock! Nevermind. More like 10.

Re: puch gila questions

Fish tits Krauthamer /

that'll work

Re: puch gila questions

don't know if anyone said this yet,

YOU DON'T NEED TO ADD MATERIAL FOR A GILA KIT. PORT AND GO!

Re: puch gila questions

Fish tits Krauthamer /

glad someone said it

Re: puch gila questions

coco said it but nobody listened

Re: puch gila questions

How does the Gila perform with and w/o opening the transfers?

Re: puch gila questions

If you already bored your case why would you not open the transfers? If your going to be that lazy you should really get out of mopeds.

Re: puch gila questions

to avoid having to add material to the case for larger transfers.
