Tomos carb upgrade

New to moped-ing. Bought a used 1999 Tomos A35 for my 14 yr old. daughter. I am a race car builder/fabricator & welder by trade. Getting ste up with it. Problem is moped stumbles off idle. Not impressed with carburetor. Should I stay with an SHA or upgrade to a PHBG? Need advice and also pipe recommendations. Already considering bad ass build for 10 yr. old son. Have 4 yrs to complete!!! Also, maybe a pit bike for myself.

Re: Tomos carb upgrade

search around. a bullet or biturbo pipe with a rejet would yield good results. got mine doing about 40

Re: Tomos carb upgrade

Bought it used..do yourself a favor and clean the carb and see if that helps.....what's your setup? all stock parts, more info would be good..a good pipe for you would be a tecno estoril also get a high flow filter and some larger gets for your carb..50's range should be good..

Re: Tomos carb upgrade

get an estoril, high flow filter, and jet to somewhere around a 58(i live i michigan) i was pulling 42's on flat.

Re: Tomos carb upgrade

U can't put a phbg on a a35 I have an estroil I'd reccomend it but after a while mine cracked in 3 places at the header but I welded it since your a welder u could weld it if urs cracks to get a 70cc kit estroil bigger jet try 60,62, and 64 then I'd get a UNI filter then sound awesome and add a lil torque but with this setup you should do like 45 ish

Re: Tomos carb upgrade

there are not as many options for tomos intakes as other mopeds, however there are some. on a stock cylinder you wouldn't want to go huge with a carb. if you are handy, hack the tube and use the base plate to weld up a tube with an inner and outer diameter that is suiting to your carb selection. i have a stock cylinder that is ported and the head milled 1.5mm off, hitting 44mph on a 16 carb with custom 16mm intake. one last suggestion, you can search this site for justin cambell, he makes custom tomos intakes.

There is NOTHING wrong with the SHA 14/12 that a little jet filing wont cure. On my Targa, I am running a 70cc Airsal with Biturbo and 27t front sprocket and the totally stock carb and intake. GPS has me at 47mph on level ground, over 50 on downslope.

On my Tri-ped A35 I need more bottom, so I run power gearing with 70cc K-star and Techno Bullet pipe, stock 14/12 SHA and ask anyone how that heavy monster performs!!

Most likeley yours is running a tad lean if it stumbles from idle to WOT. File open the jet slightly (K&N jet files are the best) An expansion pipe will give you the biggest jump in performance, but you may have to re file the jets to suit. Kits are out there for just over 100 bucks if you want to scream on that thing, and the 27 tooth front sprocket adds 3mph and longer engine life for about 20 bucks.

I forgot to mention...lose the airbox, widen the jet to compensate Velocity stack and sceen is loud but effective
