Has anyone else had their 16.16s not seal to the shim? I've had 2 do this now. It's easy to seal it up but if this problem is common it may be worth noting in the Wiki. Looking at where the shim is supposed to seat it's now surprise.

Mine was a pain in the ass whiffy. Spent about 30 mins sanding and dremeling. Fits really nice now though.
I've had the same problem with mine, I think it's a common problem for these clamp on 16's. I'm just going to go ahead and get a spigot 19 PHBG instead, I really wish it wasn't a pain to get these to seal up properly... and an angled intake will be nicer to deal with.
me too. they always leak out of the box. I am running mine on a custom intake with no shim. What causes them to leak? Is it the shim not fitting right?
ive noticed those shims wear out after a season. which sucks. use aluminum cans, cut a shim to fit in there to take up the space and run it. 16 shas would rule if they were spigot style
This shim fits alright. It's that the flat end of it needs to seal against the inner ridge on the back of the carb. This ridge is about 1mm wide at some points and is not uniform on the 16.16. Just looking at the bore of the carb I think they tried to get too much out of that body. On top of that it isn't truly 16mm as it had flat spots on the bore in order to make it work. The only advantage it has over the 15mm is that it was $5 cheaper. Anyway I sealed mine by running a bead of non hardening Yamabond along the flat end of the shim.
dude all you guys are wrong. its the spot where the both the ends meet when you are tightening the clamp. sand or dremel that .5- 1mm of aluminum down, then you will get a tight airleak fit. I dont have any pics but if you need, i can give u more info
I'll try your suggestion AirSoluble, I've got an O-Ring inside of it and its helping a little bit, but hopefully this will be the last piece to my puzzle!
ABSOLUTELLY correct, sir!
be careful with o-rings. I had one sealing up a 15sha on a daelim intake and it freaking ate it. my engine didn't care too much for the rubber, but it fought through the struggle.
Air, Your suggestion worked perfectly! In fact... I did it about 30 minutes before I had to go to work and didn't have time to change my jetting because it was now way too rich with the airleak fixed. I took the express instead, and I was glad I did... such a joy to ride on a summer day, thanks a million.
yes
i have a 16.16 on an intake for my maxi and it still leaks even after torquing the screw a lot. any more and i would risk stripping threads i'm pretty sure.
how do you solve the leak problem in this case?
Did you try what this dude posted? Check out the picture, and you'll know what he's talking about.

i saw that advice...but my carb fits very tightly without the need to sand down the nubs for a tighter fit.
i ordered a seal and a few different sleeves...hopefully this will help
this item 9263K555
Metric Viton® Fluoroelastomer O-Ring 1 mm Width, 19 mm ID, Packs of 25 (Same as 9263K11)
from mcmaster solves the leak completely. amazing.
remove the stock shim, put the o-ring in, replace sleeve. voila
I just recently found my dellorto 16.16 to be leaking very badly. I tried sanding the aluminum nubs but it didn't help cause it was already tight as could be. I have been working on this for two full days now and the damn thing just won't seal, not even covered with gasket goo. I'm going to try one of those o rings. I have an o ring in there right now and it isn't helping at all. Considering how bad the leak is it still runs pretty awesome.
