Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

Today I decided to get the hobbit proma exhaust off treats. I was reading through the wiki on the leo vince pipes and it looked like a few people did upjet their carb. My hobbit is 100% stock right now except for the proma pipe i just purchased.

Anything I should really be concerned about except for just bolting it up and taking off? Should I do a few plug chops to see if I need to upjet?

Thanks!

Re: Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

Most people do not need to upjet, but it is always safer to do a plug chop. Hobbits are jetted rich stock, so putting on the pipe leans it out to a more desirable jetting.

I would also recommend lightening the weights to improve acceleration. It makes a huge difference. Take the weights out and drill the weights till you get to about 10-11. There is info on the Wiki about it.

Also, you could notch your variator!

If I hadn't been such a noob, I'd have notched the variator first, then installed the proma. I just wonder how fast it would have gone with the stock exhaust and notched variator.

Re: Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

Notched variator on a stock hobbit kinda sucks. I had a couple extry variators I nabbed from the junkyard, and when I notched one it seemed like it didn't quite hit the pipes power band with a polini. I will have a proma in a couple days, so that might be a different story, but I fersher prefer the stock variator on stock top end.

I can't wait till it comes. So far the fastest clocked speed I've gotten to is 26 to 27mph. That was cruisin past a parked cop car with the "You are going this fast" sign on it. So I am hoping to start modding it and get it going closer to 35. I did read about peoples rear variators getting worn out, and I cannot tell if mine is or not.

This will be my first performance tuning and it is supposed to be the easiest, so im hoping ill get a good boost from it and everything will go smoothly.

Re: Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

Add the +1000 dio clutch springs and "stock" reeds from treats and you'll be well into the mid 30's if everything else is working right. Those plus the exhaust are fairly basic and affordable mods that will make a huge difference. Lighten the variator weights for even better accelleration and notch the variator to improve the top end even more.

Oh, and you will not need to change the jet for the proma. Don't worry about it one bit.

Consider going to 35:1 or 40:1 on your oil mix. That will improve performance, but make sure you're using a good synthetic to avoid big problems.

Re: Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

If you are running the stock air filter you should be able to run the stock jet.....but, do some plug chops to make sure.

Re: Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

would this also apply to the express? including the factory rich condition.

i know then have the same engine......

Re: Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

portets, yes and no.

Express and PA50s have a similar top end, but very different bottom end. They also have totally different carbs, which is where the mixture and richness comes from. That being said most expresses I have run across have run a little rich especially on the top. HOWEVER, expresses are more likely to be missing pieces in there airfilter assemblage, meaning they could be hella lean. Unfortunetly, NA50 and NC50 express can't run the proma without some hack and weld action, and even then you have to sacrifice the center stand.

Holy shit!

That was a good buy! There is one heck of a lot more power now. I just got the pipe today and installed in it about 15 mins. Took it for a spin, and wow that made a huge difference. I haven't gotten a chance to clock how fast I was going (broken spedo) and I don't have a gps to check my actual mph. If I had to guess though, I was probably going close to 40mph??

No changes except the pipe, so I will have to buy the preformance reeds and clutch springs and see where I am at, but I will say that the pipe definately exceeded my expectations!

Re: Hobbit with Proma Exhaust

thanks for explaining that. my express has all of the filter assembly, although off at the moment.
