top end for case inducted E50

yeah... ive got one in the works. time to start thinking about what cylinder i want to run, im up for tryin something wild. hopefully this isnt all top secret hush hush info. someone talk to me please and thank you!

Re: top end for case inducted E50

I know a guy who's done this. Hmmmm...

Yep- This is the guy http://www.mopedarmy.com/resources/mod/el_pollo_diablo/

Re: top end for case inducted E50

do you know what he used?

i was thinking maybe a derbi pyramid reed kit? if you can put a metra80 on a derbi and they are the same stroke (43mm) then theoretically you should be able to put a derbi kit on a puch.... right?

anyone know what kind of work is involved with putting a mk80 on a derbi?

Re: top end for case inducted E50

how about a pug topend with a spacer between the cylinder and the e50 to make up for the longer stroke. anyone have anything to say on that matter?

thanks

spencer

Re: top end for case inducted E50

sounds epic enough for me.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

I dont think theres enough case material to cut the derbi pyramid top transfer port out without adding surface area. Plus the cylinder skirt is way thicker on derbi cylinders which means case boring ala metra/gila/parma 80 style. a project for sure.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

Re: top end for case inducted E50

i think he is going to have to weld more surface regardless. he wants to go big dog. so thats what he is going ot have to do

if you wanna go nuts. weld the surface and the stud holes. make it big enough you can take some away. and throw on some crazy ass scooter kit. after you press the con rod of said kit. into the crank of a puch

Re: top end for case inducted E50

or you could just slap a kx 80 cylinder on there

Re: top end for case inducted E50

i was planning on getting wild with some jb and my dremmel, probably not real welds.... any thouhgts on that? i did some searching on this kx 80 cylinder and it looks like its water cooled 45.8mm stroke... hows that slap on drew?

Re: top end for case inducted E50

I built a case inducted e50 It's working great! I used a 4petal polini reedblock. It fit perfectly over the crank. Also, I used JBweld to build up the needed pad to mount the reedbock on. Just be mindful that you have to build up some material but not so much that the carb interferes with the bottom of your frame. Also, I used a 70cc kstar for my cylinder, but that's only because I'm a cheepo. If you go the cash, go big!

Re: top end for case inducted E50

oh yea. Here's my pad.

And here it is all pretty with the reedblock on.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

anybody else got something to say i think i may have found a scooter kit i like, tryin to figure out what the stroke length is on it though

Re: top end for case inducted E50

no pics!! i want to see, i'm in the works of having one welded up would like to see your jb and how big and ect...

Re: top end for case inducted E50

ive got my cases prepped and the intake marked but i think im going top get a polini kit from my brother for 60 bucks so im going to put the molassi 4 petal on that and try and find another reedblock. i need to get another job before i can buy a kit and a crank for this thing so im not in a big rush i just want to make sure i build this thing to its full potential. what reed are you using? any ideas for you topend?

Re: top end for case inducted E50

Anyone got any pics of your setup?

Re: top end for case inducted E50

Just fit a 70cc K-star on it, make "transferchannels" trough the inletport to the boosters (dont forget to fill up inletport with JBweld), raise the cilinder with a spacer, enlarge and raise the exhaustport and you are flying!

Re: top end for case inducted E50

i ended up getting a few bikes that took priority over this project but im just finally getting back into this. i think im probably going to use a derbi kit, possibly pug. im waitin on a stock derbi top end so i can do some test fitting and make some decisions on which way i will go. id really like to use a lc pug kit but have a feeling the derbi cylinder will be easier to use. ill keep bump this thread as i make more progress.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

News flash from my front. After some serious blasting, the intake studs I set in my JB weld intake pad pulled out. I set new ones, and they pulled out even faster. Now I'm ditching the JB weld pad all together and working on making an aluminum block to replace it. I probably should have predicted this, but it was a fun run for a 1.0 version.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

did you just set the studs in the jb weld or did they go through the jb weld into the aluminum?

Re: top end for case inducted E50

Just into the JB weld, I thought that if they went in pretty deep, it would be ok. I've seen it work out just fin for some people that do this. I'm committed to make an aluminum replacement for the JB weld now. it's a good reason to work on my machining an aluminum welding skills while I have access to them both. I'll for sure post any results of my efforts.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

french bike kits are a bust. fins go the wrong way. look at stuff and think, yaaaaall

but srsly, there is no better moped kit than the alum derb metra 70 kit. and fuck a scooter kit. besides, how big reeds you planning on running? at least gila sized, right? otherwise, what's the point? just wondering.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

derbi kit

go big or go home

or 80 metra's rip on a case reed

Re: top end for case inducted E50

I would say the 65cc pyramid reed kit.

Only problem being the obesity of the cylinder skirt.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

Yeah an 80 metra out be cool too.

Also, whenever you are "building" with JB weld you should make JB rebar.

You take like steel wool, shred it up, and mix it into the JB weld. It works really well actually.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

rock finally shredding pow /

^wouldnt that make unwanted air in the goop?

and derbi fo sho. or hobbit cylinder?

i think derbi, cause of the smaller third transfer

Re: top end for case inducted E50

I'm using the Polini pug reed block. It worked really well for me. I was toping at 50 with a k-star only a mildly case matched. Plus the whole carb/intake assembly was tucked away nicely in the area between the hole I made and the cylinder cooling fins. No carb shooting off to the side. Surprisingly it was still easy to change my jets.

Here are the studz that ripped out.

Re: top end for case inducted E50

JB rebar! I had never heard of that!

Pic gonna work?

Re: top end for case inducted E50

last try:

Re: top end for case inducted E50

scooter kit is out for sure, i like the idea of sticking with ped parts but maybe a ktm clutch....

i thought about the fins and if i go french i would go LC so fin direction doesnt matter then.

i really like the looks of that derbi kit with the extra exhaust ports you motomatic dudes are running (ive been following your blog dean). is that what is going on all of your race bikes?

i got a dio reed cage pretty cheap and i think it might just be a little smaller than gila reeds but should be able to flow 24mm. no? maybe even 28mm? or am i just being crazy?
